Thanks to Adult Swim & Max for providing an early look at ‘My Adventures with Superman’, starring Jack Quaid and Alice Lee – full review is below!
My Adventures with Superman proves that telling the origin of Superman ceases to amaze and captivate no matter what audience it’s tailored for.
The animated series stars Jack Quaid as the titular character, Alice Lee as his iconic romance and fellow journalist Lois Lane, among many other names who yet have not been added to its IMDB page.
Azuri Hardy-Jones voices Flip, Michael Yurchak as Winslow Schott, Jeannie Tirado as Lana Lang, and Kiana Madeira as Supergirl.
Characters, Voices & Great Casting
Jack Quaid (Scream, The Boys) provides the official voice of Clark Kent aka Superman in this new animated telling of the iconic DC superhero.
Surprising casting you could perhaps say, however, his voice serves the character well for both the normal everyday Clark Kent journalist to when he is caped up and flying around Metropolis to protect its inhabitants.
Alice Lee (Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist) steals the show as Lois Lane as she shows what true journalism can accomplish when seeking justice.
Despite Lee only serving as a voice for the show, her animated counterpart comes across as even more relatable which is due to the voice and the same can be said for Quaid plus the rest of the cast.
Refreshingly Good Animation
The animation in this series goes a long long way, to say the least.
It should be noted that this series is definitely tailored for a younger audience, which makes the level of effort and more traditional animation styles more surprising as it truly brings it back to the golden days.
Children’s animations have been a hit or miss these past few years in terms of animation styles, with some coming across as cheaply made despite not knowing how much different styles cost when first viewing.
This new series has classic vibes and can be compared, visually, to the animated Pokémon and Scooby-Doo TV shows from the early 2000s. This will be a huge refreshing relief to both its older audiences and parents to those who will have children streaming episodes on a daily to weekly basis.
The Story
Although this series seems more tailored for family-friendly audiences, the story’s plot can be genuinely enjoyed by any age group whether you are a parent, a non-parent, a teenager, or a young child.
Its story might just have some of the best utilization of journalism used in a DC story so far which truly turns characters such as Lane and Olsen into heroes themselves alongside their mysterious flying friend Superman.
Final Thoughts
Altogether there isn’t really anything overly negative to say about this one.
My Adventures with Superman is a fun and interesting series full of beautifully well-done animation that can be enjoyed by any age group.
If you’re a DC fan then you’re going to enjoy it.
5 out of 5 stars.
