Thanks to the makers of Narcos, fans have been getting a substantial snoot full of the Colombian drug wars and next on their list is Griselda Blanco, starring AGT happy fun girl, Sofia Vergara. This is going to be quite a transformation.
Known as the “Black Widow” or “Cocaine Godmother,” Griselda Blanco was a sinister woman who led the notorious Medellin cartel in South America and was the reason Miami Vice needed a TV series to feature all the cocaine smuggling and trafficking in their city. That was all Griselda, and now it’s Sofia Vergara.

This Won’t Be Your Mama’s Sofia Vergara
Created by Eric Newman and Doug Miro and directed by Andrés Baiz. Vergara was provided executive producer credits via Latin World Entertainment. Make no mistake–she is leaving the funny Modern Family and AGT hijinks behind. She’s getting serious about this role.
Although Griselda was around the days of Pablo Escobar and all things connected with the NARCOS franchise, in real life, her sights were set on Miami Beach, where she ruled for decades.
Despite how ruthless this five-foot chica of chaos was, Vergara has been working on this project for eight years, as we learn from showrunner Eric Newman via THR.
“It had a lot of the elements and felt like Narcos to us but we also wanted it to be Sofia’s party,” he said of joining the creative team. “She’s so good in it and it’s something that she’s been carrying around. To go back to your question about what appeals to me, or what the throughline is, it’s that kind of passion.
There’s always someone in the equation — and I’ve been the person and I’ve also facilitated for the person — and here it was Sofia who was like, ‘I want to do this. I don’t know that I can do this but I want to try.’ And I knew she could.”

If she has invested that much into this role of becoming the five-foot fire plug of terror, I’m in.
Sofia Vergara will be joined in the series by Alberto Ammann, Alberto Guerra, Paulina Davila, Vanessa Ferlito, Maximiliano Hernández, Juliana Aidén Martinez, Julieth Restrepo, Martin Rodriguez, Gabriel Sloyer, Christian Tappan, Diego Trujillo, and José Zúñiga.
