Ragnarok Season 3 Spoilers Inside!
Netflix’s Nordic series Ragnarok has now ended after three seasons, with the third instalment wrapping up the story of Magne Seier once and for all.
Its ending came as a shock to fans as the story went in a different direction than expected, something the cast of the series has now spoken out on.
In a recent cast interview hosted by Netflix Nordic, the cast of the series got to offer their thoughts on the surprise ending that received a mixed reaction.
David Sakston (Magne), Theresa Frostad Eggesbø (Saxa), Jonas Strand Gravli (Laurits), Danu Sunth (Iman), and Herman Tømmeraas (Fjor) all took turns to reveal how they originally reacted to finding out about the series finale.
See below to see what they said.
Ragnarok’s Cast Reaction To Season 3
Stakston who stars as the main protagonist, Magne, started by saying “When I first read the last episode, the first thing I asked myself was ‘How am I going to pull this off?’”
“I couldn’t really see how it would make sense,” said Tømmeraas who then added that once he saw the finished result, he was “pleasantly surprised”.
Eggesbø complemented the “great” series for its fantasy element with “Thor and Norse mythology”, but was initially taken back a bit when discovering that she was “playing a character who lives in the imagination of this kid in his room reading comics?”
Eggesbø, however, realised that it made “sense that it’s about what [Magne] has been through, and with us, and his own battles.”
Gravli originally “thought the series was going to go in another direction,” but was “very happy” about being surprised with season 3’s ending.
Sunth simply stated that the surprising reveal “feels right” as she didn’t “think the story could have gone on much longer.”
Ragnarok Season 3 Cast Explain Ending
As aforementioned, Eggesbø who stars as Saxa cleared any potential mystery as to what happened during the surprising ending during season 3’s finale.
Magne was indeed just imagining the whole Norse mythological aspect of the series, however, mostly everything else would have really happened.
Such as Isolde and Vidar’s deaths, however, their deaths were not caused by anything related to Gods and Giants.
Isolde died during a paragliding accident, which was shown during the first season, but Magne originally believed her death was caused by Vidar.
Vidar’s death, which was originally shown to be due to a fight between him and Magne, was actually just a heart attack – this is what his family, the Jutuls, revealed to the public, originally believed to be a cover-up.
Ragnarok’s Cast Predicted Mixed Reactions
“I think people will be surprised because we are holding this narrative,” said Gravli, referencing the surprise twist kept secret “until the very end.”
Tømmeraas gave credit to Ragnarok for not being “predictable” and said that “sometimes, that’s what you want with a series (…) and it’s fun to have the opportunity to deliver that.”
Gravli’s predictions did indeed come true as reactions from the series’ fans have been drastically mixed since its release on Netflix. Most expected the ultimate Ragnarok-inspired ending, assuming that would be an epic battle between the show’s Gods and Giants, as a series finale.
However, regardless of how viewers react to the surprise twist, the twist itself does indeed make more sense for the end of Magne’s journey.
