A brand new TV spot for the upcoming Marvel Studios movie Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania reveals Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man picking Quantum Realm-inspired mushrooms out of the ground, and using them as weapons against what will most likely be Jonathan Majors’ Avengers-level villain Kang the Conquerer. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is set to release in cinemas on the 17th of February, 2023, and will see the main protagonists of the Ant-Man franchise take on the new MCU villain Kang. This will be the first official movie of the fifth phase for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with expectations that it will set a completely new tone for future projects in the now multiverse saga. Paul Rudd debuted as Scott Lang/ Ant-Man for the MCU all the way back in 2015, prior to movies such as Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Endgame, which he also both appeared in.
Rudd has solidified himself as one of the most important Avengers in the cinematic universe, making him now one of the most beloved characters of the franchise, despite the skepticism leading up to the first installment. When the first Ant-Man was being promoted prior to release, many fans online were skeptical that the character would make a worthy addition to the live-action universe, with admission from the cast in various interviews that they also initially shared that same skepticism. Evangeline Lily would often say while promoting the first movie that she was unsure at first if a movie about an “Ant-Man” would live up to the glory of other solo Marvel movies like Iron Man or Thor. However, when it was finally released, fans around the world were surprised at how captivating it ended up being.

New Quantumania Footage Breakdown

In the new promotional TV teaser spot for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the majority of the footage has been seen before in prior promos, however, there are a few seconds of new footage that shows Ant-Man wielding some sort of mushroom-looking object from the Quantum Realm. The object seen being tossed into the air in Scott Lang’s Ant-Man seems to bare some resemblance to how quantum particles are usually depicted, however, it visually appears to look more like a mushroom of sorts. It could very well be just a grabbable quantum particle of some kind due to the characters being inside the quantum realm, a literal micro-sized world built up of quantum energy, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to find out that actual quantum mushrooms also exist in the Marvel-created universe.

Judging by appearance alone, it is hard to argue that the object looks like anything else other than a mushroom, especially in the frames that show the object being thrown into the air. If it is indeed supposed to be a mushroom, this could be a reference to past scientific studies of how hallucinogenic mushrooms open our minds to unlocking an out-of-the-box view of reality, or maybe it is just a form of food for citizens of the quantum realm. Nevertheless, Ant-Man is clearly using this object for neither of those two use cases, as he appears to be using it more as a throwable weapon of some kind to most likely fight Kang. Unless the goal of throwing this object is to possibly destroy something, or could maybe perhaps be in a fight with Corey Stoll’s MODOK, we will just have to wait and see.
