As a part of their 2023 summer preview, Entertainment Weekly released a new still from Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. It also featured an interview with writer/director James Gunn, who is now writing a Superman movie focusing on an earlier part of the Kryptonian’s life, and it won’t feature Henry Cavill.
The Hidden Detail
Upon closer observation, you’ll notice that Peter is holding a photo. Yes, that’s it, that’s the detail. You may close the article now.
Just kidding – the photo he’s holding was also featured in the trailer, in which Gamora was looking at it. The image is probably an old image of the team together, although this Gamora won’t recognize it.
Keep in mind that this is not the same Gamora we saw at the end of Guardians Vol. 2. As seen in the events of Infinity War and Endgame, she was killed by Thanos and brought back from the 2014 era to Earth in 2023.
“Rocket has always been the secret protagonist of the Guardians movies”
Talking with EW, Gunn also mentioned that he felt “very connected to Rocket”, and that “nobody would be able to tell his full story if it wasn’t [him].”
“To me, Rocket has always been the secret protagonist of the Guardians movies. From the beginning, it has been rooted in who he is as a character. I think he exemplifies a lot of the traits of all the Guardians. They’ve had all these traumas, and it brings them together. I just think that his is more extreme than others.”
James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 releases in theaters on May 5, 2023.
