New details for Naughty Dog‘s The Last of Us Part 3 are starting to reportedly surface online as the live-action series’ popularity rises.
The Last of Us Part II was released in 2020 and since then there have been little talks on the secretive third instalment.
However, new information on the highly anticipated third part of the series has been reported by insider DanielRPK (via EuroGamer).
New The Last of Us Part 3 Details
According to the newly reported information, at least five new characters are planned to be introduced in The Last of Us Part III.
These characters will reportedly be called Lucas, Mason, Val, Gracie, and Ezra – and will all belong to a group called the “scavengers”.
The “scavengers” are described as being a group who are “surviving on the outskirts of a post-apocalyptic city” while using a Victorian house as their main headquarters. So nothing too out of the ordinary for this world!
This new character report suggests that Naughty Dog are now casting, or has cast, these characters for the third instalment.
This further fuels a recent claim by insider ViewerAnon that The Last of Us Part III would be commencing “major filming” at some point this year.
The Last of Us Part 3 New Character Details
As per the recent DanielRPK report on the five new characters for The Last of Us Part III – some descriptions of each character were also shared.
See below for the descriptions of Lucas, Mason, Val, Gracie, and Ezra.
Lucas‘ reported character description describes him as being an “affable” character that “develops a relationship with another young scavenger and will have a turn to show his dark side”.
Gracie, who could be the other young scavenger in a relationship with Lucas, is described as being between the ages of 18 to 25.
Mason is described as being a “former soldier” who will have to “choose between his loyalty” to other characters in the group when Val “gets put in charge” of what sounds like to be the Scavengers.
Val is described as being the leader of the reported “scavengers” group.
Ezra is described as being what sounds like to be an antagonist for the third outing of The Last of Us, or at least to the “scavengers” group as it is said that Ezra wants to “take over the house from” the Scavenger’s leader Val.
Ellie’s Role In The Last of Us Part 3
ViewerAnon also claimed that Ashley Johnson’s Ellie Williams will be “at least as important” as she was in The Last of Us Part II.
“Look, it’s early, story details are tweaked and everything is potentially up in the air to be changed, but I assure you I’ve heard Ellie is at least as important in LAST OF US PART III as she was in PART II.”

The insider also stated, as shown above, that the reported story details could potentially be changed, if true, meaning anything is still possible.
As of writing, nothing plot-wise for The Last of Us Part III has been confirmed by the cast and crew of the game series.
What This Could Mean For HBO’s Series?
HBO’s live-action The Last of Us series, starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, is set to return for a second instalment that will most likely tell the events of the 2020 video game The Last of Us Part II.
It’s currently speculated that the second season will tell the second game’s story from start to finish, however, due to the success of the first instalment, it wouldn’t be surprising if they dragged it out a bit.
The live-action series depending on the storylines told from the Naughty Dog game series could potentially be the reason why a third game is now planning on commencing filming this year, allegedly.
Unless this has been a secret plan the whole time from the creators of the game series, something that fans will have to wait to find out.
As to when The Last of Us Part III is set to release remains currently unclear as large games such as these typically take years to develop.
Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part 3 does not have a release date.
