Owen Wilson was reportedly in talks to join the cast of Venom 3 alongside Tom Hardy, with news breaking to the internet just last week, however, it was later revealed that he was not in talks to star as his already established MCU character, Mobius, who has now appeared in projects such as the first season of Disney Plus’ Loki series and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
This news shocked the Marvel Cinematic Universe fandom as Wilson’s MCU character would have possibly made more sense for the new Venom instalment, especially considering the fact that Hardy’s Eddie Brock, aka the titular character, traversed through the multiverse during the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which assumes that the Time Variance Authority (TVA), in which Wilson’s Mobius works for, could have possibly been a bit ticked off by all this universe-jumping madness going on right now in the wider Marvel universe[s], an organisation who deal with exactly that last seen in the Loki series.
However, regardless of who Wilson was lined up to play in Venom 3, it seems that his role has now been passed to a different actor, possibly to save any confusion in the general Marvel fan community. Although this reported information comes from trusted sources, no confirmation or official comment has come from the cast and crew of Sony’s third Venom instalment.
Where Is Owen Wilson’s Mobius Showing Up Next?
It’s safe to assume that the next time Wilson fans will get to see his MCU character Mobius appear next will be in the upcoming second season of Loki, which is set for a 2023 release, which was originally expected to release this summer, however, due to the delay of Marvel Studios’ Secret Invasion, the next season of Loki is now expected to drop later this year.
Mobius was last seen completely forgetting who Loki was during the final moments of the first season, and then again in the post-credit scene of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, where he is shown to be hanging out with Loki once again, but still a bit clueless as to what’s going on in regard to the whole Kang situation, Kang being the main MCU baddie at the moment played by Jonathan Majors.
Who Was Owen Wilson Going To Play In ‘Venom 3’?
Sadly, information as to who Wilson was reportedly in talks to be starring as in Venom 3 was not shared in the recent report, as both casting and plot details are currently being kept tightly under wraps by the cast and crew of the next Tom Hardy-led Venom movie.
Venom 3 is expected to release in theatres sometime in 2024 or 2025.
