Early Reactions Call Black Panther: Wakanda Forever “Marvel’s Magnum Opus”

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is set to release just shy of two weeks, and Marvel Studios’ marketing campaign is at its peak. Yesterday, FilmRatings.com confirmed that this movie will be rated PG-13 due to “sequences of strong violence, action, and some language.”. This was predictable to say the least.

What was surprising, was the fact that this capeflick only features one mid-credits scene. The norm for almost all Marvel Cinematic Universe movies has been a mid-credits scene and a post-credits scene. The comparison between this and other projects is redundant since it has a colossal runtime of 2 hours and 41 minutes, making it the 2nd longest MCU movie to date.

First Reactions For Wakanda Forever Are Overwhelmingly Positive

Wakanda Forever had its red carpet world premiere last night, and special screenings for critics and reviewers were held as well. The first reactions for this sequel are out, which praise the movie for its visuals, cast, soundtrack, screenplay, direction, dark nature and more. Here is a compilation of first reactions for Wakanda Forever.

“The best MCU project of Phase 4”

#WakandaForever is phenomenal. Easily the best MCU project of Phase 4. I can not understate how masterful the score is from start to finish. There are no weak links in the cast, but I have to give a special shoutout to Angela Basset and Letitia Wright who really blew me away.

@McBDirect on Twitter

#WakandaForever is outstanding. It handles loss, grief and revenge with a maturity and seriousness rarely seen in the MCU. Black Panther continues to be their crown jewel. Letitia Wright, Angela Bassett and Tenoch Huerta all bring some of the best acting I’ve seen all year.

“A great tribute to Chadwick Boseman”

#WakandaForever is one of the best films @MarvelStudios has put out. Beautiful storytelling, character development, and a great tribute to the Chadwick Boseman. @TenochHuerta was PHENOMENAL! But I also gotta give props to Letitia Wright. Can’t wait for y’all to see it!

@MannyGomezMedia on Twitter

WAKANDA FOREVER is a beautifully cathartic tribute to the legacy of Chadwick Boseman. Reminds us of his monumental impact & that he’s truly still here with us. Great performances from Gurira, Bassett, Wright & Thorne. Huerta was INCREDIBLE. Loved Rihanna’s song & Ludwig’s score.

@KevinMcCarthyTV on Twitter

#WakandaForever is fantastic! Coogler delivers a soulful, wondrous sequel that packs an emotional punch & effectively explores relevant world themes. A beautiful tribute to Boseman’s legacy. Letitia & Tenoch are great, & the mid-credits scene is really moving.

@FicoCangiano on Twitter

#BlackPanther #WakandaForever is epic, especially in scope. Namor is one of the better villains the MCU has had to offer. Tenoch Huerta just kills it! Emotions are heavy. Ryan Coogler ups his game on the action. It’s a lot to take in, balance so much, and is powerfully good.

@BrandonDavisBD on Twitter

Black Panther: #WakandaForever is Marvel’s most poignant and powerful film to date. It’s heavy and dark in the way that it needed to be, and mostly abandons the studio’s trademark tone. The craft work levels up in every conceivable way, and the performances rise to the occasion

“A fantastic sequel”

I know you don’t believe when people come out of a world premiere and say a movie is awesome….but #BlackPantherWakandaForever is a fantastic sequel and a great movie. I knew it’d be emotional and it was. Expect your eyes to leak. Great job #RyanCoogler

@colliderfrosty on Twitter

#WakandaForever is blockbuster filmmaking on another level. It surpasses the incredible first film with high stakes and and thrilling world-building. It’s an emotional, dark journey, leading to a full-scale war, but always feels personal. This may be the best Marvel movie yet.

@howatdk on Twitter

#WakandaForever is absolutely EPIC! The action is awe-inspiring, the cinematography is exquisite & it’s emotionally gut-wrenching! Make no mistake, #Shuri is the star of the film & Letitia Wright is incredible.

“An epic emotional rollercoaster”

#BlackPanther #WakandaForever was an EPIC emotional rollercoaster of an adventure!! CRIED NUMEROUS TIMES AND HAVE NO SHAME! Letitia Wright performance as Shuri was one for the age! A complete elevation of her pervious times!

@BigGoldBelt on Twitter

Ryan Coogler’s #BlackPantherWakandaForever, above all else, is cathartic. An emotional movie about loss, legacy and healing. The story is intimate, but vast with global power struggles and palace intrigue. Tenoch Huerta’s Namor is a FORCE, better than I hoped. So much to discuss.

@Sean_OConnell on Twitter

Takes real artistry to make something as huge & expansive as Wakanda Forever feel intimate and heartfelt. All hail the mighty Coogler. Loved it.

In case you didn’t know, Rian Johnson is the one who wrote and directed the space opera Star Wars: The Last Jedi! He also worked as a scribe for episodes of Breaking Bad.

“Tenoch Huerta just kills it!”

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was filled with a rich, captivating story and was jam-packed with action. I truly enjoyed this movie from beginning to end! Also Dominique Thorne as Ironheart was the perfect comic relief for the film.

@JamieBroadnax on Twitter

#WakandaForever is exactly the cathartic experience I hoped it would be, helping us move past our grief while watching the Wakandans fight to do the same. The intro of Namor was incredible, the story bittersweet and packed with emotionally charged twists.

@punchycritic on Twitter

#WakandaForever‘s bigger in scope and scale than #BlackPanther, but its story is also one of Marvel’s most intimate and heartfelt. It’s definitely a Comic Book Movie, but it’s one that centers grief and the grieving process rather than superheroics and spectacle.
