Disney is on the live-action remake fast track right now, with new information coming from a Twitter user known as @reelnewshawaii, stating that the live-action Moana remake is set to begin filming sometime in October 2023, with the live-action Lilo & Stitch filming right now.
The Twitter user’s tweet reads “Moana update for ya. Seems Disney is fast tracking this one with filming tentatively slated to start some time in October & taking place in Hawaii & Georgia. Rumor is Arnold Schwarzenegger is playing Maui…… kidding, that’s a Joke. The Rock is definitely reprising the role.”

As written in the description of the official video announcement, Dwayne Johnson is set to both produce and star in the live-action remake of Moana, with Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia also set to produce via their Seven Bucks Productions, and Beau Flynn via Flynn Picture Co., with the original Moana voice artist Auli‘i Cravalho serving as executive producer, and Scott Sheldon of Flynn Picture Co. Jared Bush, with Samoan industry pro Dana Ledoux Miller also set to take part in production.
“Like its animated predecessor, the film will celebrate the islands, communities and traditions of Pacific Islanders as seen through the eyes of a young woman eager to pave her own path. Moana’s journey of self-discovery and reflection on the lives of her ancestors won hearts worldwide, as did her newfound friendship with an exiled demigod named Maui.”
