Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man, Sherlock Holmes) was reportedly spotted on the set of Marvel Studios’ Captain America: Brave New World aka Captain America 4.
Author Nawar Shora took to his LinkedIn page to share a sneak peek at the Marvel Studios Captain America set located in Washington, D.C.
See Shora’s Captain America: Brave New World set image below.
Alongside Shora’s image came a detailed description of his brief interaction with one of the “security folks” working on the MCU project slated for 2024.
An interaction that included details of a potential spoiler in regard to Robert Downey Jr., see below for what Shora said in his LinkedIn post.
Robert Downey Jr.’s MCU Return Revealed?
According to Shora’s interaction with the security employee, Robert Downey Jr. was spotted driving “super cars” with others on the set of Captain America 4.
“They are filming Captain America 4 around the White House and near my office. I was on a quick errand walk as I noticed all the lights and equipment and finally asked one of the security folks about it.
He was so talkative and nice, said — (SPOILER) — Robert Downey Jr was there last night and they were driving all sorts of super cars.”

This seemingly isn’t to be confused with his 2023 Downey’s Dream Cars project. It should also be noted that Downey’s Dream Cars has already premiered while Captain America: Brave New World was still in production just last week.

Potentially meaning that Marvel Studios’ original Avengers member Tony Stark aka Iron Man might just be making an appearance in the next Captain America movie.
So, Will Tony Stark Be In Captain America 4?
As of writing, no announcement or confirmation as to if fans can expect an appearance from Downey in Captain America: Brave New World has been made.
It would be surprising if such a reveal was to officially be announced prior to the movie’s release seeing that any involvement of Tony Stark in the MCU post-Avengers: Endgame would be considered a huge deal for the franchise.

This news also seems to have been posted around the same time that production on the 2024 MCU title officially wrapped.
Meaning that if Downey has indeed visited the set to film a couple of scenes as Tony Stark aka Iron Man, it was most likely just for a short cameo.
How Could Tony Stark Return Though?
It’s pretty safe to assume that the whole Marvel Cinematic Universe fandom is fully aware at this point that Downey’s Iron Man died during Avengers: Endgame.
So it’s also pretty safe to say that he won’t be coming back anytime soon, but that doesn’t rule out flashback scenes or variants from other universes.
Such as some theories speculated Downey’s return for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which of course never came to pass, a flashback scene may be the big plan.
Many characters in the upcoming Captain America movie could easily tie in with a past Tony Stark played by Downey, such as Harrison Ford’s General Thaddeus E. “Thunderbolt” Ross who was previously played by the late William Hurt.
Downey and Hurt’s MCU characters were both introduced during the earlier section of Marvel Studios’ Phase 1 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
So it would be fitting that Downey returns to potentially pass the torch over to Ford who now takes over the role and is highly speculated to bring the Red Hulk to the big screen.

All of this and more will be confirmed or debunked once the title officially releases next year unless the cast and crew have plans to comment earlier than this.
Captain America: Brave New World releases in theatres on July 26, 2024.
