Royal Mint has officially announced that, for the first time ever, a new collection of Star Wars-themed 50p coins are coming on July 10, 2023.

The first coin to release will feature iconic Star Wars characters R2-D2 and C-3PO and will be in celebration of Return of the Jedi‘s 40th anniversary.
Royal Mint’s Star Wars Coins Coming Soon
Additional coins will feature Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker, the late Carrie Fisher’s Princess Leia, Darth Vader, Harrison Ford’s Han Solo, with Chewbacca, and the sinister Emperor Palpatine.
It’s expected that all designs will be based on how the characters looked in Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi from 1983.

When Does Royal Mint’s Star Wars Coins Release?
“The Star Wars™ Collection will finally land on 10 July 2023, with the first in a collection of coins dedicated to one of the most popular film franchises in cinematic history.
The four-coin collection celebrates some of the most popular partnerships from the original Star Wars trilogy. The collection begins with a design featuring the lovable droid pairing of R2-D2™ and C-3PO™, which appears on the first official UK coin dedicated to this iconic movie franchise.”
Coin designer Ffion Gwillim worked with The Walt Disney Company to bring the new Star Wars coins to life. Including one that will see R2-D2 and C-3PO in colour for the first time on a Royal Mint coin.
Each new coin will feature lenticular features in the background that will reveal symbols when exposed to the light.
Royal Mint’s first Star Wars-themed coin will include both lenticular features of Tatooine and the Rebel Alliance’s “Starbird” logo.
Where Will The New Royal Mint Coins Be Available?
Royal Mint’s first coin out of the upcoming Star Wars coin collection will become available to purchase on their official website on July 10 at 9 am.
