Now that I’ve invested over 2,000 hours into it, Rocket League is essentially a part of my youth. I still play it with a friend on occasion. A game that never really gets boring and keeps you invested for plenty of hours without pause.
Competitive
This game features an exceptionally wide skill difference, making it the ideal game for competitive players since it really allows people to exhibit how much better they are than the typical player. The competitive scene for this game is extremely large, and the ranking system in the game is fairly good. If you want to take this game seriously, you must practice and play it frequently. From team games of 2v2 and 3v3, to single 1v1 games, each requires a different playstyle and a certain level of consistency. I, personally, have played at the highest rank and the lowest as I worked my way up to the top, and it was something that took time.
The RLCS is a significant component of the professional game scene that millions of people watch for good reason, and this game has a sizable Esports community.
Casual
Even though this game has a sizable competitive scene and it appears that its main focus is on competitive play, a casual player can still enjoy it. Because the games only last five minutes, not including overtime if necessary, you can keep it installed and always return to it for a quick couple of games with a friend. I now only play this game casually, but I still regularly return to it and play with friends if I ever feel bored.
It has casual mods with humorous little events that add to the gameplay’s uniqueness, such as curve ball, where the ball curves every time you hit it, dropshot, where you must destroy the floor to score plus many more. It offers endless hours of entertainment and is infinitely replayable as long as you can stay online because the offline experience is quite limited.
Performance
This game runs smoothly on both consoles and desktop computers, regardless of the graphics settings. I personally play it on lower settings because I’m a competitive player and I want as many frames per second as possible, but even on the maximum setting, I get over 240+ FPS. I’ve never experienced stutter lag or anything else that threw me off the game, which is something I’d expect from a competitively oriented game, and this one definitely delivered. This game looks good for a car football game on high and low settings meaning every player gets the same experience.
Summary
I have to give this game a 5/5. It’s exactly what it says it is and for the price you get endless fun for casual and competitive players with a strong fan base and fun and exciting gameplay. There’s nothing to really fault here.
5 out of 5 stars.
