Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction, Secret Invasion) has been cast in an upcoming movie entitled Last Meals, described as a death-row drama that will also be starring Boyd Holbrook (Logan, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny).
Deadline broke the news today Monday May 15th that Jackson is set to star as a character named Walter, desribed as being a disgraced White House chef who, much later on in life, finds himself working in a maximum-security prison cooking literal last meals for inmates on death row.
Holbrook will be starring as Reed, an inmate from the same prison who begins a hunger strike while Jackson’s Walter is in charge, causing the two men to form an unlikely bond as Walter gets to see how far a man will go in order to prove his innocence.
Andrew Levitas is set to direct, known for past projects such as Minimata starring Johnny Depp and Lullaby that starred Garret Hedlund and Amy Adams, with Last Meals being amongst the first handful of projects Levitas has helmed.
Justin Piasecki (Stakehorse) is set to write, with Renée Tab and Christopher Tuffin set to produce, alongside Morgan Freeman, Gary Lucchesi, Lori McCreary, and Michael McKary who will also be stepping in to help produce.
Andrew Schefter, Justin Piasecki, Myles Nestel, and Lisa Wilson will be credted as executive-producers for the new death-row drama, which previously had Delroy Lindo set to star, along with Adewale Akinnuoye Agbaje who was originally set to direct.
Samuel L. Jackson is set to star in next month’s big Marvel Studios series for Disney Plus entitled Secret Invasion, returning to play the role of Nick Fury, a prominent character throughout the many years of projects to come out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Boyd Holbrook was last seen in the massively popular series for Netflix entitled The Sandman, and will next be starring in the upcoming sequel Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, which has finished all production and comes to theatres on the 30th of June, around a week after Jackson’s Secret Invasion drops on the giant streamer.
Last Meals does not currently have a set release date.
