Scarlett Johansson (Iron Man 2, Asteroid City) has revealed that out of all the people she has yet to work with yet on screen, Tom Cruise is the first that comes to mind.

Interestingly enough, Cruise was offered the role of Tony Stark in Marvel Studios’ 2008 movie Iron Man but turned it down. If the Mission Impossible actor said yes then both himself and Johansson would have worked together many times throughout the various instalments of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Scarlett Johansson Wants To Work With Tom Cruise
While talking with The Hollywood Reporter at the premiere of her current movie Asteroid City directed by Wes Anderson. The Black Widow star confessed that Tom Cruise is the first that comes to mind when asked who she would love to work with that she hasn’t worked with before.
THR: Is there someone on your list that you have yet to work with that you would love to in the future?
“You mean an actor? Um Tom Cruise. I’d love to work with Tom Cruise.”

Cruise is widely known for his stunt-filled action movies such as Top Gun: Maverick, the Mission Impossible franchise, among many other box office smashers. The next is Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning: Part One that’s set to release in July.
Could Johansson Join Cruise’s Mission Impossibles?
It’s currently unclear as to whether or not Cruise will officially be hanging up his Mission Impossible hat once Dead Reckoning: Part Two releases. Johansson could very well be up for a spot in a potential Mission Impossible 9 considering her past action work as Black Widow in the MCU.

Past Marvel stars such as Hayley Atwell who starred as the MCU’s Peggy Carter and Guardian of the Galaxy‘s Pom Klementieff are both a part of Mission Impossible 7. This means it’s safe to assume there would be potential for Johansson to join the ride.
However, as mentioned, whether or not there will be any future instalments of the franchise for Johansson to join has yet to be announced.
Are Johansson & Cruise Working Together Already?
One title that Cruise is currently involved with is the Untitled Tom Cruise/SpaceX Project which was announced back in 2020 by Deadline. The first action movie that will see its cast or at least Cruise, literally travel to outer space.
The project itself has been told to have no connection to any of Cruise’s past franchises. Some, however, speculate that this may be the final Mission Impossible movie due to the scale of what we know so far about it.
Could Johansson already be attached to this title? Could her talks with The Hollywood Reporter just be a tease for what’s to come? It’s unlikely but stars of the movie industry are professionals at keeping spoilers safe – well, maybe not Tom Holland.
So fans of the two stars will just have to wait and see if the future holds any projects for them both to work together in.
