Editor’s Note: CoveredGeekly writer Christopher Mills came across this easter egg while playing the video game Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
As many know, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has finally been released and has you facing off against many foes such as Kraven, Lizard and Venom.
Though Peter and Miles are facing off against these threatening villains, there are many more things in the city of New York for them to explore.
Spider-Verse Easter Egg In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Explained
One of the many things you come across in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 are these spider-bots. The first one you come across is after the main mission titled “Science Buddy”. Everyone’s first spider-bot will be the same which is the “Spider-Man 2099” spider-bot.
After this you’ll be tasked to gather 41 more spider-bots, throughout your journey of gathering them, you will have these calls with Ganke as he helps try to find out where these bots have been coming from. These spider-bots are the hardest collectable to find in the game as they don’t appear on your map and you have to just be lucky enough to come across them while swinging or gliding through the city.
There are two ways to help, one is the visual indicator when you’re near one, it’ll make a pinging sound and you’ll also see it pulsate, it’ll look very similar to the glitching effect that you see in the Spider-Verse films, hinting that this collectable may lead towards a Spider-Verse easter egg.
The second way is to get an upgrade in the Traversal Tree from Suit Tech upgrades called “All Seeing” which reveals tech crates on your minimap, but something it doesn’t tell you is that the spider-bots will also show up on your minimap if you’re close enough.
The Bar With No Name Easter Egg
Once you’ve collected all 42 spider-bots, you’ll have to head to a location as Ganke may have figured out where the bots are coming from. Once you reach the mission location, a cutscene will start to play. You’ll see a portal open, one that resembles the portals from the spider-verse film, confirming that this is indeed a spider-verse easter egg.
Inside the portal you’ll see a bar and a bartender named Delilah who speaks to you and takes all the bots from your hands, saying they’re dangerous, she even name-drops Miguel O Hara who is also known as Spider-Man 2099. After this the portal closes with Spider-Man questioning who Miguel is, you might think that the portal and Miguel mention were the only Spider-Verse easter eggs… but there is more to this that you might’ve missed.
The bar that you see within the portal is actually that universe’s version of the bar with no name, which is a bar in the comics and one you visit during Marvel’s Spider-Man DLC, The City That Never Sleeps. You also might not recognise the bartender but she was originally supposed to appear in Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse in a scene where Spot visits the bar. The bar and her character design can be spotted inside the art book for the film.
It could be a possibility that it was too late for Insomniac to change the scene or they just never knew it was going to get deleted. There is also a chance we could see this bar and the bartender again in Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse.
This was a very nice easter egg and one that was fun to do. It’s one that you can easily miss out on if this wasn’t information you already knew. There are many more easter eggs in the game and a lot more collectables. Expect a full 100% review from us on Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 which will be coming soon to CoveredGeekly.com!
