Amazon Prime Video will reportedly be adding a well-known Tolkien character to the second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, the giant spider Shelob that will be known by many as the big creepy crawly that tried to eat Frodo, moments before being scared off by Samwise Gamgee.
This news comes from the popular Tolkien outlet known as Fellowship of Fans, who wrote in a recent exclusive that a “Young Shelob” will be featured “in ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ season 2”, with additional information stating that the appearance will be a smaller role, potentially meaning fans will only get a brief few cameos from the evil menacing, daughter of Ungoliant, Shelob.
Why This News Makes Sense
Spoilers for Season 1 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power are below.
Shelob joining the second season of The Rings of Power would make perfect sense, mostly due to the fact that Sauron can be seen entering the fiery and smoky land of Mordor during the final moments of Season 1, which is also where Shelob’s Lair is located, in both the books and the live-action movies.
Fans of Tolkien’s original work will also know that Shelob and Sauron have even interacted from time to time, however, Shelob remains free from Sauron’s clutches, in a sense, with some cases having Sauron himself providing Shelob with tasty snacks, which fans may even get to see down the line in The Rings of Power‘s second season on Amazon Prime Video.
Will Sauron Find Shelob In Mordor?
With Sauron being seen entering the land of Mordor during the finale of Season 1, it is highly safe to assume that he will also be seen becoming aware of Shelob’s presence, however, it would also make sense if Sauron would already be completely aware that Shelob resides there.
In the original lore, Sauron is more than happy with Shelob residing in Cirith Ungol, as she is essentially his best guard that prevents people trying to pass through her lair in an attempt to enter the lands of Mordod unsee, something that Frodo and Sam manage to achieve, barely, during the events of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, and something that many have failed in doing.
