In the latest casting report for Superman: Legacy from The Hollywood Reporter. A few names for the Lex Luthor shortlist were revealed.
Casting is currently underway for the 2025 live-action Superman reboot for James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe.
While screen tests for Clark Kent aka Superman and Lois Lane come to a near close, the shortlisting for the next live-action Lex Luthor continues.

It makes sense to cast the titular role before casting his iconic arch-nemesis as you would want to most likely see if the two test well together on-screen.
Gunn currently has a final running of six people to play Superman and Lois, one half being for Superman and vice versa. Leaving it safe to assume that a shortlist for Lex Luthor will be compared to the current selection of names.
Alexander & Bill Skarsgård Shortlisted For Lex Luthor
Skarsgård brothers Alexander and Bill are two of the newly reported shortlisted names to be up for the live-action Lex Luthor.
It was also stated that if Nicholas Hoult fails to land the titular role as Superman, who was previously thought to be up for Lex Luthor, it is unclear if he will be going for the villain shortlist instead.

As mentioned, Gunn will not be making a decision on who is playing the live-action Lex Luthor until the casting for Superman has been finalised.
