Sony Pictures has recently released their first look at the Spider Centric movie Madame Web which is set to star a number of big names such as Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, and Adam Scott.
However many fans have noticed with this trailer the striking similarities the plot bears with the popular horror movie series, Final Destination.
Madame Web Feels Like Final Destination, Fans Say
For those caught unaware, Final Destination is a series about avoiding some horrific tragedy to befall you via a vision that only you and a select few others believe the validity of only for death themselves to hunt you afterwards to make up for losing souls, all the while trying to get off his list.
In a similar vein, the plot of 2024’s Madame Web is about the titular character coming close to death and awakening with newfound visions tying her to people to prevent their deaths and change their fates.
Which, hilariously enough the idea of having multiple plot-relevant visions isn’t even a uniquely Madame Web idea, it was lifted directly from the worst Final Destination instalment, The Final Destination.
The last time Final Destination was on the silver screen was over a decade ago in 2011 with the underrated Final Destination 5, but a couple of years ago, it was announced that the series would be returning under Warner Bros. yet again for a sixth instalment.
While little was known, it was said that it would focus on emergency services workers… which also coincidentally is what Cassandra Webb does in this movie, something which I don’t believe has much of a basis in the source material.
I can’t help but wonder if a lot of this is intentional, especially with how much this is supposedly going to play with time, fate and destiny.
That or maybe it’s just a long-form reference to series staple Tony Todd playing Venom in Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2, who really knows the intention behind the anachronism.
All 5 Final Destination films are currently streaming on Max, Madame Web crawls into theaters on February 14, 2024.
