Sony released fourteen minutes of exclusive Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse footage during their CinemaCon 2023 panel today, with characters such as Hailee Steinfeld’s Gwen Stacy and Shameik Moore’s Miles Morales being most prominent, and plenty of Spider Society moments to get excited for, Sony also released the first trailer for Kraven the Hunter during their panel which can be seen here.
You can read the full footage description below, with some moments already being briefly seen in previous promotional footage such as teasers and trailer, however, this new footage reveals 14 minutes at full length, focusing more on Morales and Stacy’s first interaction in the movie.
New CinemaCon Footage Description
The new footage from Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse started off with Gwen Stacy visiting Miles Morales for the first time since the events of Into The Spider-Verse, with Morales still displaying affection toward Stacy, clearly revealing he still has strong feelings for the character.
As seen in the official trailer, Stacy embarrasses Morales by going through his notebook which contains various drawings of her, with the two characters then leaving his room despite the fact that Morales says his parents have grounded him.
Once the two leave Morales’ building, it is then revealed that Stacy is visiting Morales to tell him about the secret society of multiversal Spider-People, aka the Spider Society, with information that she and the society have been bringing down villains across different dimensions for quite some time since the events of the first movie.
However, it is also revealed that the Spider Society’s goal is not to just bring down their foes, it is ultimately to stop more universes from colliding, an event that is typically known as an Incursion as mentioned in both Marvel Comics and the Marvel Cinematic Universe such as in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness – could this all be an allude to the Spider Society somehow helping out the MCU’s Avengers in Avengers: Secret Wars?
Stacy and Morales then begin to swing across the city while catching up as they have obviously not seen each other for quite some time, with their romance becoming far more evolved, but Stacy tells him that they can’t be tempted to be together due to every universe’s Stacy and Spider-Man romances ending in what is essentially alluded to be death.
Although Stacy warns Morales of this, he responds with “Well there’s a first time for everything right?” which just increases the romantic tension between the two characters. Stacy then meets Morales’ parents, mother Rio Morales and father Jefferson Davis, at a rooftop party with the parents showing that they can sense Morales and Stacy like-like each other.
Morales introduces Stacy to his parents, awkwardly of course, with Stacy being called back by the Spider Society through her wrist device that allows people to hop across different universes, just as seen in previous trailers for the sequel.
Once she leaves, Morales’ mother comforts him and the two share a warm and authentic family moment where he is even tempted to reveal to his mother that he is Spider-Man, but chooses not to due to the typical danger that follows once people discover this fact.
The scene and footage ends with Morales’ mother encouraging him to chase after Stacy, with the conversation about him growing up being shown at full length just as teased in the official trailer, with the mother making him promise to never lose sight of who he truly is.
Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse comes to theatres on June 2nd, 2023.
