Ever since his first appearance in Star Wars: A New Hope, Han Solo became the face of Star Wars and a staple of pop culture for years to come. Portrayed by Harrison Ford (who will play President Thunderbolt Ross in Captain America: New World Order and Thunderbolts), Solo went on to become one of the most significant and influential characters of all time.
After Ford’s not-so-welcome comeback as Solo in the sequels, Lucasfilm released a prequel movie focused on Solo, starring Alden Ehrenreich. The movie received mixed reactions from critics and audiences alike, who criticized the movie for its storyline, but praised the cast.
In an interview with NME, filmmaker Ron Howard talked about his collaboration with Tom Hanks and addressed fan requests for a sequel to Solo: A Star Wars Story. He said that he doesn’t consider the sequel to be a “Lucasfilm priority”, and that there’s no input for the movie from the studio.
“The only discussion that I’m aware of about a sequel for Solo is coming from the fans at this point, I don’t think it’s a Lucasfilm priority, as I understand it.”
Howard continued by saying that the Lucasfilm executives “love the fans and really do listen [to them]”.
“But there’s some great characters launched, and the folks from Lucasfilm love the fans and really do listen so I would never say never – but I’m not aware of any concrete plans right now to extend the story or deal with that particular set of characters.”
