In a surprising moment, Invincible and The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman revealed on a livestream that Steven Yeun will be portraying Sentry (aka Robert Reynolds in the comics), most likely for Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts.
The 2025-slated film is rumored to follow a group of heroes and anti-heroes including the likes of Sebastian Stan’s Winter Soldier, Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, and Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent all led by Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, who has been lurking throughout Phase 4 and 5.

However, given Marvel’s recent string of controversy, along with a new industry groundbreaking with SAG-AFTRA and the WGA, Thunderbolts‘ development has slightly shifted as the studio looks to permeate a full narrative path into the multiverse.
Although, fans can look forward as one particular rumor about this film is coming to fruition: Steven Yeun’s casting as another yellow-and-blue-cladded (anti)-hero, the Sentry.
Robert Kirkman Spills The Beans On Yeun’s Casting
In a recent live stream with comics artist David Finch, Kirkman revealed that Steven Yeun will play Sentry, who is rumored to be an integral part of Thunderbolts‘ overarching story.
Talking about Yeun’s process of fitting into costume, Kirkman also joked about Yeun’s portrayal of Mark Grayson aka Invincible, who also wears an iconic yellow and blue costume all throughout the show.

“[Steven] called me, he went in for a costume fitting…,” Kirkman briefly mentioned to Finch and stream viewers. “I hope I’m not… I don’t think this is a spoiler, or anything that will get anybody in trouble. I don’t know, maybe, we’ll see.”
“He told me, ‘Uh, I just came back from a costume fitting for the Sentry. I guess I only do superheroes that are yellow and blue’,” he comically added. “He was at the costume fitting and was like ‘Aw crap, I forgot Invincible was yellow and blue!’”
What Is Sentry’s Role In ‘Thunderbolts’?
While it’s unclear what type of role Sentry will play in the film, it can be said that he’ll have a very important one, perhaps even being the main villain that the upcoming team of ragtag agents will fight against.

However, it can also be noted that Valentina Allegra de Fontaine’s role here will serve a greater purpose that influences why the Sentry is the way that he is, similarly to how the government interfered with Bruce Banner’s gamma testing in The Incredible Hulk.
Whatever the case may be for Sentry, his role in Thunderbolts will surely hold a lot of stakes and maybe even play a role in the gradual lead-up to Avengers: Secret Wars.
Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts is set to release on July 25, 2025.
