HBO’s hit live-action series based on the popular video game of the same name, The Last of Us, has just received a very positive update as to when production expects to begin filming for its episodes.
Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey brought to life two very iconic gaming characters known as Joel and Ellie, fans of the series prior to the live-action adaptation had become very well acquainted with the two characters after playing Naughty Dog’s first two parts of the game for PlayStation.
Surprising both fans of the game and critics alike, the live-action series ended up becoming widely praised by the majority of those who tuned in weekly to watch. As of writing, the whole series sits with an impressive 96% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes with its audience score also being high at 89%.
The Last of Us Season 2 Filming Update
As per Variety, HBO CEO Casey Bloys announced today November 2 that The Last of Us season 2 aims to enter production sometime in early 2024 – all assuming that the ongoing SAG-AFTRA actors’ strike finds a resolution with the AMPTP by then, that is.
The HBO boss noted that the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes had delayed the production of the hit series’ highly anticipated second season, along with revealing that season 2 was not on the network’s release slate for 2024 – meaning it will most likely be aiming for a 2025 release, at least.
The Last of Us Season 2 does not yet have a release date but is expected to premiere sometime in 2025 at the earliest.
