Daedalic Entertainment’s upcoming video game The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will now be launching on PlayStation 5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC on May 25, with the release for Nintento Switch being scheduled for later this year.
This new game set in J. R. R. Tolkien’s Middle Earth will allow fans to traverse through the world through the perspective of the playable character Gollum, the iconic ring bearing character from The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
However, unlike previous LOTR games such as Shadow of Mordor, this new story will be taking its inspiration directly from Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings novel trilogy, as opposed to the Peter Jackson adaptations.
Fans of Sméagol will also have a part to play as the game will force players to make choices that will reflect the darker thoughts of Gollum and the more gentle inner voice of Sméagol, which fans of both the original novels and the Jackson film adaptations will be extremely familiar with already.
It’s been a while now since the original announcement that The Lord of the Rings: Gollum was made back in 2019, originally set for a 2021 release, with delays of almost two years now making this one of the higher anticipated games of the year.
This new release date puts The Lord of the Rings: Gollum alongside fellow game releases such as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Final Fantasy XVI, Street Fighter 6, and Diablo IV, all being some of the highest anticipated AAA games of 2023.
