The Nun II is poised to become the creepiest film of New Line’s The Conjuring Universe. The highly anticipated sequel to The Nun has received an R rating from the Motion Picture Association for “Violent Content and Some Terror”.
In an interview with SFX Magazine, Michael Chaves, director of the film, revealed what fans can expect from The Nun II, highlighting it as probably the most violent movie of The Conjuring franchise. He confirmed that they escalated horror for the sequel by creating a much “darker “ and “more violent” story for Valak’s return.

“I think that this does get darker. Even audiences have said this, when we screened it. It is definitely more violent than what they expected from a Conjuring movie,”
He continued: “It’s always a delicate balance. It’s definitely scary, it’s 100% delivered on that. Just as horror audiences have developed the appetite for horror, the appetite for violence has started to increase, and so there are some violent elements in this.”
What To Expect In The Nun 2
The Nun II marks the ninth entry in The Conjuring Universe, accompanied by The Conjuring: Last Rites and an upcoming Max series, which will further advance the overarching narrative of Ed and Lorraine Warren.
Notably, The Nun stands as the franchise’s second highest-grossing film, having achieved a remarkable $117.4 million in domestic box office earnings.

Michael Chaves directs The Nun II with a screenplay by Akela Cooper, Ian Goldberg, and Richard Naing. This is Chaves’ third team-up with Wan, following The Curse of La Llorona and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It.

The cast includes Farmiga, Aarons, Bloquet, Storm Reid, Anna Popplewell, and Katelyn Rose Downey. The Euphoria star will make her second horror appearance of 2023, following an Emmy-nominated role in HBO’s The Last of Us Season 1.
The Nun II releases in theaters on September 8, 2023.
