The Spiderwick Chronicles series has found a new home! Roku has officially acquired the U.S. rights to adapt a television series based on the book series The Spiderwick Chronicles, the popular children’s fantasy stories by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black.

This news comes after Disney+ backed out of hosting the series due to their new and revised plan being more heavily focused on their fully Disney-owned IPs.

Details of the series so far confirm that there will be eight episodes, with it coming directly out of Paramount Television Studios and 20th Television, and premiere sooner than expected sometime in early 2024 as per Deadline’s exclusive that broke Tuesday, October 10.

It is an honor to bring The Spiderwick Chronicles, a spectacular adventure-filled story led by the incredible Christian Slater and Joy Bryant, exclusively to The Roku Channel. We cannot wait to introduce this exquisitely crafted series, imagined by a world-class creative team, to millions of streamers.

This is said to be Roku’s most ambitious exclusive series to date and proves that the streamer is still aiming to add to its ever-growing library of streamable content from its collection of series to film.

As mentioned, the 2024 Spiderwick Chronicles series will consist of a total of eight episodes.

Similar to the prior movie adaptation, the series will follow the coming-of-age story of the Grace Family who uncover a hidden mysterious world shortly after moving to their great-grandfather’s Spiderwick Estate.

Starring in the series includes Joy Bryant as Helen Grace, Noah Cottrell as Simon Grace, Lyon Daniels as Jared Grace, Mychala Lee as Mallory Grace, Jack Dylan Grazer as the voice of Thimbletack, and Christian Slater as the antagonist known as Mulgarath.

Serving as executive producer has Aron Eli Coleite who also serves as the series showrunner, with Kat Coiro who directed the first two episodes, alongside Tony DiTerlizzi, Holly Black, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell, D.J. Goldberg, Julie Kane-Ritsch and Grace Gilroy.

The Spiderwick Chronicles series is slated for an early 2024 release exclusively on Roku.
