Deadline took to share news today August 26 that Disney+ will no longer be moving forward with the anticipated The Spiderwick Chronicles series.

The series itself is a live-action adaptation of the children’s fantasy book series of the same name, additional fans were also acquired through its 2008 live-action movie adaptation that starred Freddie Highmore, also under the same name.
Disney+ No Longer Wants Spiderwick Chronicles Series
Deadline also confirmed that Paramount Television Studios and 20th Television’s six-episode The Spiderwick Chronicles series has been completed.
Despite its completion, due to Disney’s new streaming strategies and cost-cutting, projects such as this one are being pushed aside.

It should also be noted that the series was a non-Disney IP as it was coming from an external studio, making it a rarer Disney+ title in the first place. Disney’s new strategy is to primarily focus on developing Disney-owned IP titles such as the upcoming Percy Jackson and the Olympians series.
Paramount Looking Spiderwick’s New Home
Anticipating fans will be happy to know that the completed six-episode Spiderwick Chronicles series has not been cancelled, it just needs to find another streaming platform to call home.
Paramount is currently looking for potential buyers to swoop up the completed series and get its release back on track. It’s currently unclear as to who will purchase the series or where it will eventually end up streaming.
