Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation, The Last of Us) and his wife Megan Mullally (Will and Grace, Parks and Recreation) have officially been announced to be joining the cast of The Umbrella Academy for the final season. Offerman is most known for his role in Parks and Recreation as Ron Swanson, however, his role in HBO’s The Last of Us series as Bill may be his fan’s new favourite. The new season of The Umbrella Academy will be the fourth in the series, recently being announced to also be the last and final one, and will officially feature the married pair of actors as a married pair of characters.
The new information on the final season comes directly from Netflix’s latest Tudum article, with not only the reveal of the casting but also which characters they will be playing. In the announcement blog, it is stated that Offerman will be playing the role of Dr Gene Thibedeau, a character not originally from the Gerard Way comic books, with Mullally playing Dr Jean Thibedeau, both are described as being a “pair of mild-mannered Midwestern community college professors”. It will most likely be no coincidence that the two actors have been cast as a married couple, as Offerman and Mullally are married in real life and have proven time after time to be hilarious when paired together.
This isn’t the first time that the two have been cast in the same projects, as both have starred in Parks and Recreation plus Will and Grace together, both times having some sort of romance involved. Not to mention the countless sketches, skits, and bits that the two naturally comedic actors have done together, it’s a sure thing that their involvement with the final season of The Umbrella Academy will be worth the watch.
Additional Details
These new characters will star alongside the now iconic Hargreeves family, consisting of Elliot Page as Victor, Tom Hopper as Luther, David Castañeda as Diego, Emmy Raver-Lampman as Allison, Robert Sheehan as Klaus, Aidan Gallagher as Five, Justin H. Min as Ben, Ritu Arya as Lila and Colm Feore as Reginald.
Details on the two new characters are being kept tightly under wraps for now, with just an additional tease from Netflix “the Thibedeaus’ lives will get a lot less sensible when they get caught up in some timeline-twisting chaos.“
The Umbrella Academy‘s final season is expected to release sometime in late 2023 or early to mid-2024, exclusively on Netflix for streaming.
