MINOR SPOILERS: Melissa McBride’s Carol Peletier officially joined The Walking Dead’s latest spinoff Daryl Dixon in episode 5, which dropped just last night on AMC and AMC+, at least in the form of her voice being heard through a walkie-talkie during a flashback scene.
Although McBride’s appearance was in a voiced flashback set before Norman Reedus’ titular character travelled to France, she still managed to tease that a major reveal could be coming to the franchise’s new spinoff sometime soon.
While Daryl talks to her over the walkie, Carol reveals to him that somebody “came back”, however, it’s unclear as to who she is referring to as her voice gets shrouded with static noises leaving both Daryl and the viewers in confusion.
This detail goes unrevealed for the rest of the episode, which most likely means that a major character’s return to the universe is set to be coming to the Daryl Dixon spinoff, one that fans will be familiar with. It’s safe to assume that whoever they’re teasing is somebody that fans have been expecting to return already, leaving plenty of room for theories to begin as there are currently various The Walking Dead characters that fit that category.
See below to see who’s the most likely character to have “come back” to the franchise.
Daryl Dixon: Is Morgan Jones Next To Join?
Lennie James has spoken out in the past about not returning to the franchise, however, that could just be the Andrew Garfield “I’m not the werewolf” tactic of not spoiling something that’s planned for the future. Which could and most likely would be the return of Morgan Jones in one of the new The Walking Dead spinoffs.
In James’ latest and apparently last episode of Fear the Walking Dead, his Morgan Jones revealed that he wants to set out on a journey with his daughter Mo (Zoey Merchant) to find Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes. This was a clear set-up for a future return, despite what anybody says.
When Carol tells Daryl that somebody has “come back”, she tells him in a surprisingly calm way, meaning that it’s safe to say it won’t be Rick Grimes as her reaction would probably be a bit more frantic considering that everybody thought he was dead for years.
Morgan on the other hand would be a much safer bet when it comes to the list of potential characters teased to return, especially when considering his somewhat aforementioned cliffhanger in the final season of Fear the Walking Dead.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is now streaming on AMC+, its final episode airs on AMC and AMC+ on Sunday the 15th of October.
