‘The Walking Dead: Dead City’ Season 1, Episode 1 – Full Spoiler Recap

Spoilers for The Walking Dead: Dead City episode 1 inside.

The episode starts with Lauren Cohan’s Maggie looking at Manhattan from afar. She ends up getting entangled with a walker but manages to defeat it in a violent rage. You can tell she is in distress as she seems to emotionally break down. Cuts to intro.

Skipping forward in time a little bit, Maggie enters a bar that is actually being operated in a completely typical way as a bar would be run in the normal world. Maggie seems more cool and collected now, it is revealed that she is looking for Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan who she finds and chases outside of the bar.

Maggie reveals that she needs Negan to help her, it is also revealed that Negan has a young gil with him called Jenny who is not related to him, just in his care.

It is revealed to Negan by Maggie that her son Hershel has been taken hostage by a group who also ransacked Hilltop, you don’t get to see this happen though. She says Negan needs to help her and that he owes her due to killing her husband Glenn.

She tells Negan that the group that took her son whistled like Negan used to when ransacking their village, which made her realize that Negan did something to them.

He agrees but he needs to put Jenny somewhere safe, she takes them to Hilltop. Hilltop has a new location, however, you don’t get told where and you don’t get to see it, you do get to see a new member but not for long.

“Marshalls” go to the bar from earlier, they are basically cops and there are laws now, they reveal they are looking for Negan and despite the bar owner telling them where he is, they kill her anyway cus she lied about it at first…

Maggie and Negan head to Manhattan together, that’s where Hershal is. Marshals catch up to them, Maggie takes the youngest of three hostage, the other two chase them by boat into Manhattan. They get to Manhattan, zombies start falling from the top of the buildings, so they head through the streets.

When in the streets, a mysterious car drives by playing loud music, this attracts a herd of zombies, but it is clear they did it on purpose to lure them.

The two other marshalls show up, start shooting the zombies, with Negan/Maggie heading inside to a building, the marshalls follow them inside.

Inside the building: the young marshall hostage almost gets bit then get shot by a fellow marshall, another marshall gets chewed up by walkers, then the main marshall gets knocked out by Maggie.

Negan and Maggie escape. Hershel has a scene with the guy who has him hostage, he doesn’t say much, bad guy wants info on Negan.

Some guy runs away from the same place, covered in marks, tries to make a run for it by ziplining down a building, bad guy cuts the zipline, ouch, dead.
