A sequel to the movie Troll, the Norwegian action movie directed by Roar Uthaug (The Wave, Tomb Raider), is now in development over at Netflix as exclusively shared by Variety.
Troll 2 is set to have Uthaug return as director alongside writer Espen Aukan and producers Espen Horn and Kristian Strand Sinkerud at the Oslo-based Motion Blur known for projects such as Cadaver, Amundsen, and The 12th Man.
Filming for the Troll sequel will begin sometime in 2024.
What Will Troll 2 Be About?
As of writing, not much has yet been revealed about Netflix’s Troll 2, other than it is officially in development and will begin shooting in 2024, which gives the teams enough time to get everything prepared.
“[Troll 2 will once again be] spinning on a Norwegian fairy tale figure, played, directed and produced by Norwegians,” said the sequel’s producers Horn and Sinkerud.
Uthaug’s first Troll movie begins after a controlled explosion, that goes off inside a Norwegian mountain, and awakens a sleeping, ancient, and once believed to be a mythological troll.
The story mainly follows the character Professor Nora Tidemann (Ine Marie Wilmann) who grew up listening to stories about trolls told by her father who was convinced they were real, which they indeed are in this new Netflix franchise.
Wilmann’s Nora Tidemann spends the rest of the movie chasing down the singular troll who is wreaking havoc across Norwegian towns and cities and discovers secrets that were meant to stay buried, literally.
Wilmann is joined by Kim Falck, Mads Pettersen, and Gard B. Eidsvold, among others in the first Troll movie which can be streamed now over at Netflix.
The first instalment ends on somewhat of a cliffhanger-vibe, which contains a fairly clear hint that the team behind it were hoping for a sequel. It’s safe to assume that the cast members who were lucky enough to play surviving characters will return, however, only time will tell as to what Uthuag and his team are cooking up.
Netflix’s Troll 2 doesn’t have a release date as of writing.
