True detective’s Nic Pizzolatto is taking the helm for a Blumhouse horror film. During a panel at the 2023 Austin Film Festival, Pizzolatto revealed his collaboration with Blumhouse Productions, where he will both write and direct an untitled horror movie. He also shared that that the project will be an “occult detective story,” reminiscent of his work on the popular HBO series.
Pizzolatto said (via /Film):
“Blumhouse contracted me to write and direct a horror movie, which I gave them the script for last week. It’s kind of an occult detective story. But I just took a meeting with them once, and we just kind of shot the s—, and we had some common friends. We were wrapping up, and Couper [Samuelson], the VP of Blumhouse, said, ‘Look if you ever have an idea for a horror movie…’ And I go, ‘Actually, I have one idea for a horror movie, and I’ve had it for 10 years,’ and I told it to him, and he’s like, ‘Let’s go make this.’ I’ve got to see what they think of the script, but hopefully, we’ll be doing that.”
Blumhouse is known for creating cost-effective films with the potential for high rewards and minimal risk. So, backing someone like Pizzolatto seems to align perfectly with Jason Blum and the team’s strategies.
Fourth Season of True Detective Is On The Way
Nic Pizzolatto will not be returning as the creative director for the fourth season of True Detective, but he will continue in his role as an executive producer. The anthology series is set to continue with True Detective: Night Country.
Much like its predecessors, which featured stars like Harrelson, McConaughey, Colin Farrell, and Mahershala Ali, the fourth instalment boasts an impressive cast. This includes Academy Award-winner Jodie Foster (Silence of the Lambs) and former boxing champion turned actor, Kali Reis.
Joining them in the ensemble are John Hawkes (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri), Finn Bennett (The Nevers), Fiona Shaw (Harry Potter franchise), Christopher Eccleston (Doctor Who), Isabella Star LeBlanc (Long Slow Exhale), Anna Lambe (Three Pines), Aka Niviâna, and Joel Montgrand.
In the upcoming fourth season of True Detective, the story will revolve around Detective Liz Danvers, played by Jodie Foster, and her partner Detective Evangeline Navarro, played by Kali Reis. Together, they will unravel the mystery surrounding a group of missing men.
True Detective: Night Country debuts on HBO on January 14, 2024.
