Jan De Bont’s 1996 storm-chasing flick ‘Twisters’ is getting itself a sequel, with confirmation that ‘Twisters 2’ is aiming for a July release in 2024. The original film will be 30 years old in 2026, making the current release date two years off from a 30th-anniversary special. Sadly there have been little to no official details for the upcoming legacy sequel, however, some rumours and reports have been circulating the web since the film went into development.
However, a new report from the common industry scooper Daniel Richtman claims that Helen Hunt will be reprising her role as Dr. Jo Harding. Legacy sequels just don’t feel the same when they miss the key elements, which would be the original legacy cast members. Bill Paxton’s passing back in 2017 may be what sparked the idea to work on a new addition to the series, keeping the fire of his legacy burning for new generations to come.

Helen Hunt’s Twisters Return Details
Despite no official confirmation as of yet on whether or not Hunt has attached herself to the film, nobody has come out to debunk this report as of me writing this news piece. In the report, it claims that Helen Hunt’s character Jo Harding will have a daughter who ends up catching the “storm hunting bug”.
Introducing the children of legacy characters, in both film and television, seems to be the common trope but it is a realistic approach nonetheless. No casting details or additional information was attached to this new report, just a quick update on the second instalment.
