Warner Bros. Pictures / New Line Cinema has officially cast Martyn Ford (Red Sonja) as the iconic villain Shao Kahn for the live-action Mortal Kombat 2 movie. The sequel to the first 2021 instalment Mortal Kombat.
Shao Kahn is one of the most popular main antagonists of the game series, last appearing in Mortal Kombat 11/Aftermath. It was expected he’d appear in the upcoming sequel due to the setups and teases in its predecessor.
Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn is Brilliant
Ford seems to be the perfect casting choice simply due to his impressive physique which is pretty on point with his character. It looks like Warner Bros. will be going with a more practical Shao Kahn as opposed to a fully CGI version such as how Goro was designed in the first movie.

It’s possible that the studio will be leaning more toward using practical effects mixed with VFX to create the live-action adaption of Shao Kahn. However, this won’t be the first time that this will be attempted as it has been somewhat done before such as in 1997’s Mortal Kombat Annihilation.
This news comes around a month after the announcement that Karl Urban will be playing Johnny Cage in the sequel.
Additional news last month included Tati Gabrielle being in final talks to star as Jade, with Adeline Rudolph cast as Kitana.
Mortal Kombat 2 does not yet have a confirmed release date.
