Marvel Studios just released the first trailer for Echo, the MCU’s newest series following the release of Loki‘s second season and the pre-cursor to Daredevil: Born Again, which will continue the story of Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox).
The show is setting a new record within this franchise as it’s the first MCU show to ever receive a TV-MA rating, staying in-line with Marvel’s Defenders shows including Daredevil and Jessica Jones while also surpassing the most brutal Disney+ show, Moon Knight.
Echo follows Maya Lopez after the events of Hawkeye, where her actions in assisting Kingpin are slowly catching up to her. As she gets back in touch with her Native American roots, she gets pulled back into this conflict of criminality while embracing the meaning of family and community if she ever hopes to move forward.
In addition to Maya Lopez, both Matthew Murdock aka Daredevil (Charlie Cox) and Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio) are set to return following their recent MCU appearances in both 2022’s She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and 2021’s Hawkeye respectively.
‘Echo’s Connection to ‘Daredevil: Born Again’
As fans have come to realize, Maya Lopez and the events of Echo are set to influence the events of Daredevil: Born Again, which is currently undergoing its own creative rehaul.
However, with the return of Kingpin, who managed to survive getting his eye blown out in Hawkeye, it sets a new precedent forward for where the MCU’s street-level story goes. Though, this show looks to be more of a character-driven origin story for Maya Lopez as she discovers her own powers.
All episodes of Marvel Studios’ Echo will release on Disney+ and Hulu on January 10. Watch the trailer down below.
