POSSIBLE SPOILERS INSIDE.
Wednesday Season Two Is Coming Soon-ISH!
Netflix and Jenna Ortega have both confirmed that season two of Wednesday is moving forward, already, due to the hugely positive response from millions of viewers. This means we get to dive into Tim Burton’s wonderful adaptation of the Addams-universe, allowing us to revisit favourite characters – and maybe a few new ones too.
Unfortunately, the announcement of the second season was not followed up with a release date for the next chapter, but it’s safe to assume to expect the arrival of the next season before the end of 2024. It will be easier to figure out a potential release date once they confirm the filming dates, which hopefully won’t be too long.
Wednesday Season Two Characters
The incredible team behind the show, which includes the iconic director Tim Burton, will need some time to get everything ready for pre-production. Which brings me back to the point of this article, who should we expect to see in the second instalment – who could potentially be cast and as what character?
Well, that’s what we’re going to be figuring out, it’s just a shame that this wasn’t published on a Wednesday… missed opportunity if you ask me!
Let’s dive into a list of characters from the Addams Family lore, via its many adaptations in both film and television, and try to guess who could be next to join the supernatural-filled ensemble.
Cousin Itt (Yes Itt, Not It)
Seeing that Cousin Itt wasn’t included in the first season, despite how popular and beloved the character is from past incarnations of the franchise, this must mean they are saving the reveal.
You simply can’t have a live-action and high-budget series set in the world of the Addams Family without the inclusion of the hair-covered cousin of Gomez Addams. Cousin Itt has entertained fans in countless adaptations of the Addams Family whether it be in live-action or in the form of an animated movie.
It just doesn’t feel right without the muffle-voiced hairy Addams member, even if it is only the Addams family who can understand what he is saying.
If you’re like me and have seen the old Addams Family movies, then you will be quite acquainted with the one and only Grandmama Addams – mother to Gomez and Fester Addams.
Grandmama never fails to bring a true Addams vibe, even more so than Gomez and Morticia combined, as she truly embodies the spirit of what it means to be part of the family. Her background is vague but it is made clear among the many appearances of the character that she is a witch who indeed practices the art on a regular basis.
Experienced in spell casting, Grandmama would make the perfect addition to the series as Wednesday herself experienced some magical abilities during the episodes – well almost magical.
Wednesday’s grandmother could easily be put into the story to help Wednesday harness her abilities, and maybe cause some mischief at Nevermore Academy while she visits.
Uncle Fester’s Wife Debbie
In the 1993 sequel film ‘The Addams Family Value’, we are introduced to the not-so-nice Debbie Jelinsky, who is portrayed by the brilliant Joan Cusack. She isn’t technically a relative but seeing that she does become an Addams through marriage, she still counts as an Addams family member.
Now, I’m not saying that this specific version of the character should be introduced to the show, but seeing that we have had Uncle Fester come into the mix – this storyline could be a fun trip down memory lane for some fans.
Debbie Jelinsky would be considered a “normie” in the series adaptation, as she does not possess any supernatural gifts or belong to an outcast side of the world. However, similar to Christina Ricci’s character in season one, Debbie is both an extreme psychopath and murderer when things don’t quite go her way.
This could potentially seem too familiar to the first season’s storyline, but would still be a fun addition nonetheless, as Fred Armisen’s take on Uncle Fester was nothing less than perfect.
So there you have it, my top three picks you could say for characters I’d expect to show up
Wednesday Season Two Release Date
When does season two of Wednesday come out on Netflix? It’s just too early to tell sadly, as the announcement for the second season was only made within days to a week of writing this article. Season one ended on quite the cliffhanger, answering questions we all had while watching but leaving us with even more by the end.
