It was recently announced that Steven Yeun, who is most known for playing Glenn Rhee on AMC’s The Walking Dead, has been cast in a key role in Marvel Studios’ 2024 movie Thunderbolts. However, no specific details on which character Yeun will be playing in the MCU were shared, other than that the role will potentially be a big player for various projects in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s also no surprise that Yeun has finally been snatched up by the MCU, with credits such as the iconic role of Glen in The Walking Dead, and with projects under his belt such as Okja, Minari, and Nope.
Since the announcement, it has been theorized by fans online that Yeun could be joining the MCU to play a superhero and a supervillain, a character called Sentry who similar to Moon Knight possesses multiple identities. However, as mentioned earlier in this article, there has been official details shared as of yet to which role Yeun will be attaching to. There has also been some speculation going on around the web that Yeun could be playing the Spider-Man villain Mister Negative, which will probably not be the case as Mister Negative doesn’t really fit into the whole Thunderbolts side of the MCU, and is also a Sony-owned character who most recently appeared in Sony’s Spider-Man game.
What If Steven Yeun Plays A Villain?
Seeing that all the Marvel fandom can do for the meantime is speculate as to who Yeun could be playing, it is also safe to assume that Yeun could be signing up to play a major villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Afterall, two Avengers projects are currently being developed, with both of them being widely connected to Jonathan Majors’ Kang, or Kangs if you want to be specific. Yeun could possibly be joining the MCU to play a villain that will fight alongside Kang in either Avengers: The Kang Dynasty or Avengers: Secret Wars, with Secret Wars being the most likely of the two to show Kang’s team being built up of more than just variants of himself.
One thing is for certain, Yeun has been confirmed to be playing a significant role in the Thunderbolts movie, teasing that his part will be more than a quick cameo or sidelined character. However, we will just have to wait for Marvel Studios to provide more details on Yeun’s involvement, until then, theories will be all us fans have to rely on.
Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts releases in theatres on July 26, 2024.
