Willem Dafoe has been cast in Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice 2 alongside already announced cast members Michael Keaton (Batman), Jenna Ortega (Scream VI, Wednesday), Winona Ryder (Stranger Things), Catherine O’Hara (Home Alone), Justin Theroux (The Leftovers), and Monica Bellucci (The Matrix Reloaded).
Despite the overall plot details being kept tightly under wraps, it has been revealed that Dafoe will be starring as a new character, a law enforcement officer in the afterlife, essentially a ghost police officer, a role that Dafoe has played many times in the past, besides from the being in the afterlife part.
Willem Dafoe’s Beetlejuice 2 Character Revealed
Details on Dafoe’s ghost cop character state that he will most likely be after Keaton’s Beetlejuice, which if so, will be both a hilarious and iconic pairing, also potentially meaning that Beetlejuice has done something so bad that he is being chased by a literal ghost cop, which sounds about right if you’ve seen the original.
Keaton will be returning to star as the titular character, with Ryder and O’Hara also set to reprise their roles, alongside new addition Jenna Ortega who has been cast as the daughter of Ryder’s character, Lydia Deetz, with Bellucci who has been cast as Beetlejuice’s wife.
Giant Freakin Robot was first to report the casting news, with The Hollywood Reporter later confirming it today, it’s safe to say that Burton and his casting team are on the lookout for a great team to lead the sequel to the classic 1988 movie, Beetlejuice.
