Zachary Levi has reacted to the rumours that Florence Pugh (Midsommar) is being eyed to play Rapunzel in a live-action remake of Disney’s massively popular animated movie Tangled.
Rumours that Pugh is currently Disney’s top choice to play the live-action Rapunzel for a Tangled remake have been circulating for some time now. Levi confirmed to an audience at a recent convention that he had recently heard these rumours seen in a video shared to social media by Movie Maniacs.
Levi, who starred in the original animated movie, seemed to show a fair amount of interest in the live-action flick once hearing that Pugh may be attached to play the titular character.

Levi starred as Rapunzel’s love interest Flynn Rider in the 2010 animated movie, a role that he recently revealed that he’d be interested in reprising for the live-action adaptation.
“Someone sent me that Florence Pugh might potentially play the role of Rapunzel (…) That would be a trip because my real last name is Pugh, so you’d have a ‘Pugh Pugh!’ in Tangled!”
Mandy Moore (This Is Us) originally voiced Rapunzel in the animated Tangled movie, alongside Levi’s Flynn Rider. However, it seems that Levi would be more interested in sharing the screen with the Thunderbolts star than his original co-star.
Levi doesn’t mention Moore in the video shared online, however, that’s not to say that she didn’t receive a mention at some point during the stage panel. CoveredGeekly can not confirm any additional talking points as we were not there to cover the said event.
It’s surely likely that Levi would be as equally interested in reprising the role if Moore’s name was rumoured instead. Although, it’s unlikely that Levi will be returning to fill the boots of Flynn Rider in the live-action remake, mostly due to age differences.
In the 2010 animated Tangled movie, both Rapunzel and Flynn Rider are fairly young, with Rapunzel being the youngest of the two and Flynn Rider being under 30 years old. It’s fair to assume that Disney will be looking for a similar age range to Pugh (27) as opposed to Levi who is currently 42 as of writing.
However, it’s currently unclear as to what Disney intends to do as most news so far has been in the form of rumours, leaving room for speculation and uncertain details.
Disney’s live-action Tangled has no scheduled release date.
