HBO has dropped two trailers for the highly anticipated second season of its Game of Thrones spin-off series, House of the Dragon.
The ‘Black trailer' supports Rhaenyra Targaryen as she fights to reclaim the throne from her half-brother King Aegon II Targaryen, while the ‘Green trailer' backs the young king and the Hightowers.
Based on George R.R. Martin‘s Fire & Blood, the series is set nearly 200 years before Game of Thrones and explores the fall of the House of Targaryen.
The trailers show a brutal war between the Targaryens and the Hightowers, each claiming the Iron Throne.
The season follows the tragic death of Rhaenyra's son, Prince Lucerys “Luke” Velaryon, at the hands of Alicent's son Prince Aemond.
The second season of House of the Dragon will consist of eight episodes, compared to the ten episodes in its first instalment.
The series features a star-studded cast including Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D'Arcy, Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Sonoya Mizuno, Graham McTavish, Jefferson Hall, David Horovitch, Matthew Needham, Bill Patterson, Gavin Spokes, Wil Johnson, John Macmillan, Savannah Steyn, and Theo Nate.
Gayle Rankin, Russell Beale, Freddie Fox, and Abubakar Salim are new additions to the cast for the second season.
House of the Dragon Season 2 is set to debut on Max on June 16, 2024.
