Deep Silver’s Dead Island 2‘s Sam B, originally voiced by Phil LaMarr (Pulp Fiction, Futurama), has officially taken over the Dead Island Twitter account as of today, with the new page’s bio reading “Sup. Sam B here. You know what to do.” along with a new profile picture.
The new profile picture is that of Sam B, with the cover of the Twitter account also being updated to the iconic Sam B title track “Who Do You Voodoo?”, a song which will be engrained into the heads of many Dead Island players from back in 2011.
The news broke via the official Dead Island Discord server, as the announcement “Sam B has taken over the Dead Island Twitter account” was made shortly after Sam B took to the Twitter account to tweet the following:
“This sh*t working? This is Sam B. Give me a “Who Do You Voodoo” if you can see this.”
Just moments before the takeover, the Twitter admins for the account tweeted a suspicious piece of information about Sam B, with a fictional news article about the character, captioned with “Hm… that’s odd. We haven’t heard from him in weeks, now this…”.
Fans Respond To Sam B’s Twitter Takeover
Since Sam B’s taking over the account, fans of the game and of the character have gotten the chance to ask questions and interact via replying to his tweets, making for a hilarious marketing tactic to hype fans up for the release of Dead Island 2.
Sam B started the official conversation by asking the account’s followers to send in some questions about Dead Island 2: “Ask me questions, and I can slip in some details about what’s going on before anyone notices what we’re doing here. You get me?”.
One fan asked about Sam B’s fellow team members from Banoi/Palanai, the original settings of Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide, asking Sam B if he still keeps in touch with them or not, to which the fictional character responded “Listen, I get that y’all want to check on people you lost contact with in Banoi. But this is a public space: I ain’t saying nothing to put them in danger. You got no idea who might be watching this.”
Another fan also asked about the remaining characters from the first two Dead Island instalments, to which Sam B teased that they also may have survived the boat journey seen during the final events of Dead Island: Riptide, something fans have been speculating since the announcement that the sequel was being developed.
Some tips from the character are also being handed out with one fan asking about the special weapon creations, a feature that will be prominent throughout Dead Island 2, and something players will need to utilize to the fullest to survive the madness.
Using potential hazards in the open world of “Hell-A”, aka Los Angeles, will also be a common resource for slaying zombies in the official sequel, which Sam B suggests to one fan asking about high-risk areas that need to be watched out for.
Sam B teases one fan who asks if players will be able to play as the fictional character once again in Dead Island 2, as he was a main playable character in the first two instalments, to which Sam B responded with “I got my own priorities right now! And sh*t, if I took care of all the zombies there would be none left for the new kids to practice their skills on!”
Dead Island 2 releases on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Series S, and Microsoft Windows on April 21, 2023.
