Hugh Jackman has revealed that his decision to reprise his role as Wolverine in Deadpool 3 was heavily influenced by his experience watching the first Deadpool movie.
Despite originally planning to retire the character after 2017's Logan, Jackman found himself inspired by the unique tone and humour of Deadpool.
In a recent interview with Fandango, Jackman opened up about his decision to come out of retirement from the role of Logan aka Wolverine.
Jackman said, “I was on my way — I was just driving — and literally just like a bolt of lightning came this knowing, deep in my gut, that I wanted to do this film with Ryan . . . for Deadpool and Wolverine to come together.”
Although Jackman considered “Logan” his final performance as Wolverine, he couldn't shake the idea of collaborating with his real-life friend Ryan Reynolds on the big screen.
The thought of teaming up with Reynolds in a Deadpool movie continued to linger in his mind, ultimately leading to his return as Wolverine.
The Wolverine star added, “I swear to you, when I said I was done I really thought I was done. But, in the back of my head, ever since I saw Deadpool 1, I was like ‘Those two characters together . . .' I knew it:
I knew the fans wanted it. Ever since I put on the claws fans have talked about these two, so that had always been there, but I just knew.”
The upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine movie is one of the most anticipated films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
