The biggest names in monster history finally fight together as Godzilla and Kong unite to fight against a new threat, Skar King, in The New Empire.
The highly anticipated destruction fest continues off from Godzilla vs. Kong, where the two titular Titans were battling it out for full dominance.
However, the two found themselves duking it with Mechagodzilla, Apex Cybernetics' attempt to tip the scales for humanity, in the end.
Since then, Legendary's MonsterVerse has gradually expanded in terms of what kaiju currently exist.
With fan favourites including King Ghidorah, Mothra, and Rodan as well as iconic mythical monsters including the Scylla and Kraken existing, the MonsterVerse has always been able to one-up its previous instalments every time.
Although, there are some creatures within this world that are extremely powerful or have bigger roles to play, yet cower under the shadows of the more popular kaiju.
10. Mother Longlegs
As the first creature that appears in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, previously in Kong: Skull Island, Mother Longlegs is certainly a foe to be reckoned with thanks to its poison-infused legs, adaptable camouflage, and sticky webbing.
While it is essentially a large forest spider, Mother Longlegs still had plenty of great moments that made it memorable.
Most recently, one Mother Longlegs was chasing down John Goodman's Bill Randa before being confronted by a Mantleclaw, who subsequently lost the bout. Previously, another was shot down by Samuel L. Jackson's Packard after his group was trying to find a way through a forest.
9. Endopedes
The insectoid Endopedes are some of the most scary kaijus even if they're not as tall or as menacing as others.
However, their collective aggressiveness that emboldens their strength and their speed makes these tiny critters more than what viewers could have expected.
This is highly present when Keiko Randa, Bill Randa, and Lee Shaw investigate their hive, which causes them to wake up and nearly destroy the plant the Endopedes made into their home.
The Endopedes manage to take Keiko down with them, leading Bill and Lee to become characteristically different while being driven by the same purpose of learning about the kaiju.
8. Frost Vark
The Frost Vark is the second-most dangerous threat of Legacy of Monsters apart from the King of the Monsters himself.
Being able to detect and absorb heat from both organic and inorganic materials, this hardened kaiju is a terrifying creature to face given a cold environment.
For Lee Shaw, Cate and Kentaro Randa, and May Olowe-Hewitt, the Frost Vark was able to take them by surprise and even take out their pilot. However, it eventually got sucked back into Hollow Earth after Monarch forced it back into the vortex.
Nonetheless, its stealthy capabilities and heat-based abilities make the Frost Vark bone-chilling.
7. Ion Dragon
The Ion Dragon served as the catalyst for Bill and Keiko Randa's founding of Monarch, ultimately becoming an integral part of Legacy of Monsters.
While its skillset may feel like it is a low-level version of Rodan, the Ion Dragon's larger role in the Apple TV+ show's story proves its importance.
Being responsible for causing an incident that would be discovered by the two Randas, the Ion Dragon would be involved in several close encounters including one with Godzilla in the Axis Mundi, a limbo between Earth and Hollow Earth.
Thanks to such moments, this kaiju deserves to be recognized for more than its abilities.
6. Hawk
Kong's Hawk in Netflix‘s Skull Island proved to be a reliable and dedicated kaiju to the King of the desolate island.
Hawk became close to Kong at a young age, eventually becoming the primate Titan's aerial scout to help map out what was hiding throughout Skull Island.
Furthermore, as it grew older, Hawk would deliver food to Kong and even help him fight off some reptilian creatures using its mighty agility and manoeuvrability.
Thanks to such abilities and commitment to Kong, Hawk is one of the more important kaiju that feels a bit overshadowed.
5. Dog
Though not as ravenous as some of the other kaiju, Dog from Skull Island still has his role to play in the grander scheme.
Growing up to be Annie's protector after the two incidentally found each other, Dog became one of the most capable kaiju in the MonsterVerse.
Besides having remarkable strength, Dog is also exceptionally agile as he was able to outrun Kong during their chase, swim safely in tough waters, and even climb to high heights thanks to his claws.
In addition, his heightened senses allow him to find threats before the group can encounter other monsters on Skull Island.
4. Tiamat
Tiamat is unlike your usual sea monster and definitely not your Kraken. Debuting in Godzilla: King of the Monsters and later Godzilla Dominion, Tiamat became known for being a vicious ravager in the water as she attempted to take out a stunned Godzilla following his battle with King Ghidorah.
As a master manipulator, Tiamat is able to create maelstroms, mimic other species, and use electricity as a way to attack her enemies.
However, by being a water-based daikaiju, Tiamat is disadvantaged on land, where she is forced to submit to the Alpha Titan after being pulled out.
3. Shinomura
The parasitic Shinomura proved to be one of Godzilla's annoying enemies thanks to its composite structure.
Debuting in Godzilla: Awakening, Shinomura became a grave threat when it continually grew into something that was capable of taking out other Titans. In fact, Shinomura can expand endlessly if it feeds on radiation uninterrupted.
It is able to change forms on a whim as it is made up of millions of cells that make up one larger colony. As such, it was able to survive for millions of years alongside Godzilla and other kaiju, although it was surprisingly unable to survive a nuclear blast.
Nonetheless, Shinomura's hunger for radiation and subsequent evolution make it one of the MonsterVerse's more menacing threats.
2. Camazotz
Camazotz and his swarms prove that he isn't meant to be meddled with in the Monsterverse. Debuting in Kingdom Kong, he is based off the same Mayan bat god who's associated with night, death, and sacrifice.
His battle with Kong and Monarch fully showcases his range of abilities, which shows Camazotz's savage ruthlessness.
In fact, Camazotz was able to collide Ghidorah's remnant superstorm with Skull Island, thus allowing him to return from Hollow Earth.
Furthermore, during his fight with Kong, he was able to lift Kong several times with ease and disorient him with his supersonic screech.
Along with the fact that he is able to control swarms of bats, Camazotz is certainly a threatening kaiju, but he isn't the most dangerous of them all.
1. Amhuluk
Amhuluk is perhaps the MonsterVerse's most dangerous kaiju that hasn't made it to the big screen.
His name is based on the same creature in Kalapuyan mythology who's commonly associated with drowning, disease, and fog.
However, this version, which first debuted in Godzilla Dominion, has immense powers that could rival the King of the Monsters.
Using bio-telekinetic neurotransmitters thanks to his florafauna physiology, Amhuluk is able to manipulate himself to grow plant-like limbs, emit poison, and use telekinesis to fight his opponents.
Furthermore, he has incredible strength as shown when he shattered one of Behemoth's tusks. With the only weakness being his head, which is susceptible to high sonic frequencies, Amhuluk's psychic abilities prove the daikaiju to be more than capable of stopping anything in his way.
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire releases in theaters on March 29, 2024.
