Hollywood's horror movie genre has been known for both a wide range of successful hits with fans as well as its fair share of flops in regard to how they were received by critics and moviegoers alike.
Although not all horrors can please all fans of the genre, a list of the ‘worst horror movies' has been compiled by none other than the divisive review and scoring website Rotten Tomatoes.
16/16 Flatliners (2017)
Andor star Diego Luna's Flatliners movie currently sits at the 16th spot for Rotten Tomatoes' list of the worst horror movies of all time – a reboot labelled as failing to improve upon its source material.
15/16 Godsend (2004)
2004's Godsend is a movie where two parents, who lose their son, end up getting an identical clone to replace him – which ends up causing issues as he reaches his 8th birthday.
Although the plot of the movie may have looked great on paper, it just didn't translate as well on the screen with both critics and audience members alike.
14/16 The Darkness (2016)
Kevin Bacon has a lot of hits in the world that is Hollywood, sadly, 2016's The Darkness is not one of them.
13/16 Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey (2023)
2023's Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey may be one of the most bashed indie horrors of this century, with horror fans and critics alike all being in agreeance over how bad it was.
However, the creators behind this flick were positively surprised with the virality behind the movie itself, with it being one of the most talked about and technically commercially successful relative to its budget of 2023.
This led to Blood and Honey getting a sequel, Blood and Honey 2, kicking off a whole universe of childhood characters being turned into horror icons with each instalment receiving higher budgets and more praise.
12/16 House of the Dead (2003)
2003 horror House of the Dead is another flick in the spook genre that is said to have made audiences unintentionally laugh instead of making them feel how a good horror should.
11/16 The Apparition (2012)
MCU's Sebastian Stan and Harry Potter‘s Tom Felton teamed up in 2012 to bring horror fans The Apparition, however, despite their attempts – the movie ended up boring the majority of its audiences.
10/16 FeardotCom (2002)
Stephen Dorff's 2002 horror FeardotCom is said to be as ‘frustrating as a 404 error', with it also being labelled as a ‘nasty mess with few scares'.
9/16 Bless the Child (2000)
2000's Bless the Child garnered a divisive score amongst moviegoers and an incredibly low score by critics, starring Kim Basinger, with some feeling the movie makes you laugh more than feel spooked out.
8/16 The Haunting of Molly Hartley (2008)
The Boys star Chace Crawford stars in this poorly received 2008 horror movie, The Haunting of Molly Hartley.
Bashed by both critics and horror fans for its plot and ‘lifeless' horror elements.
7/16 Alone in the Dark (2005)
Based on the video game series of the same name, Christian Slater's Alone in the Dark failed to live up to its predecessor leaving both new and old fans bitter with what they had just witnessed.
6/16 Beneath the Darkness (2011)
Beneath the Darkness revolves around a group of teenagers who discover a terrible secret upon breaking into the home of a mortician (Dennis Quaid) whose wife passed away a couple of years prior.
Reviews and scores for this horror were as low as its box office intake, with many criticising its predictable plot.
5/16 Homecoming (2009)
2009's Homecoming is a horror which has been labelled as featuring a ‘lazy collection of obsession thriller clichés' with many reviews from both critics and moviegoers advising others to just watch ‘something else' instead.
4/16 The Disappointments Room (2016)
Kate Beckinsale's 2016 horror, The Disappointments Room, lived up to its name as many critics and audience members came out of viewings feeling ‘disappointed' with many going as far as to feel ‘regret' watching it in the first place.
3/16 Cabin Fever (2016)
Another failed remake, 2017's Cabin Fever struggled to garner a positive response from both critics and general moviegoers, with it currently sitting at 0% on Rotten Tomatoes as well as having a low 12% audience score.
2/16 Jaws the Revenge (1987)
Unlike the first classic instalment of the now-milked franchise, 1987's Jaws the Revenge simply failed to live up to its predecessor and completely flopped with audiences and fans of the “Jaws” movie series.
1/16 One Missed Call (2008)
A remake of the 2003 Japanese horror classic, 2008's One Missed Call was heavily criticised as being one of the – as Rotten Tomatoes puts it – ‘weakest entries' in the world of Hollywood J-horror remakes.
