Colin Farrell reveals he has ‘5 or 6’ scenes in Batman 2 while teasing his future as The Penguin

Colin Farrell has received mixed reviews about his time as Batman villain The Penguin, sharing how gruelling it is to put on makeup and wear a costume daily.

“I never want to put on that f***ing suit and f***ing head again,” he previously said.

However, after racking up an immense fanbase and becoming the acclaimed crime drama series it is, the series has received strong ratings and award buzz for the actors.

The Irish actor changed his mind about the tiring character once he saw the fan reception, which helped him enjoy the character more.

“For me, the bar for success is not very high,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.

“It’s, ‘Do most people like it?’ - just the simplicity of that.”

“I love being in things that are critically approved - it’s much better than the alternative - but I’ve been around long enough [to know] that it’s the audience who are really the most important critics.”

With the finale episode of ‘The Penguin’ airing on November 10th, fans are already hoping for a second season announcement.

“If there’s a great idea [for season two], and the writing was really muscular and as strong or stronger on the page than it was the first season, of course I would do it.”

The Penguin showcased Gotham’s Oz Cobb’s rise to power and the brutal lengths he went to to achieve it.

The eight-episode series was intended to serve as a limited bridge between Matt Reeve’s 2022 film The Batman and the 2026 sequel The Batman Part II.

However, given the series’ massive success, Reeves is in talks with showrunner Lauren LeFranc and HBO to continue the project.

Although Farrell isn’t the biggest fan of the three-hour daily makeover transformation, he also has to adopt the darkened mindset of the mobster.

Farrell used a method approach to the character during the first season, where he remained the criminal character throughout his time on set.

Some of Farrell’s costars shared that they didn’t really get the chance to properly meet the actor, considering he stayed in character the whole time, sharing that he even wore a ski mask when not in make-up to hide his face.

Reeves shared his admiration for the 48-year-old actor, who has earned multiple awards over his career.

“Colin is a really beautiful, empathic person. And so to live in that darkness, and then on top of that, to have all that latex put on day after day,” he said.

“I know that as much as he loved the role, it was also a kind of hell at the same time.”

Farrell was asked a series of questions about his time as Cobb and method acting, which he rarely has done.

“My hand was forced, in a way,” he said.

“If you put your hands over your face and push onto your face - that’s what it felt like all day.”

“So I was constantly aware of that, and the only way to accept that awareness to the point where I became unaware was to do a version of staying in character.”

“That felt more natural, and I became very obsessed by the role. It was so dark. “

The actor even addressed the viral quote of him hating the make-up and complaining about it so vividly.

“Some writer took that out of its energetic context.”

“I was bit*hing to anyone who’d listen to me.”

“I get anxious right now just thinking about sitting in the chair for hours.”

He continued: “But I always loved the material, and it was never lost on me the privilege I felt to inhabit a character that’s lived so long in comic book form originally and then through various iterations on TV and in film.”

When talking about the second movie, Farrell said: “I was told I have five or six scenes. I don’t have any hopes or any expectations. I’m really an open book, and that’s the way I get excited by sh*t or not.”
