As fans continue to wait for Stranger Things season 5, Dacre Montgomery has finally addressed whether his notorious character Billy Hargrove will return for the show’s final chapter.
Fans have long wondered if Hargrove, the season 3 villain who found some redemption before his death, might return for a last appearance in season 5.
Now, Montgomery has put the rumours to rest.
In an interview with ScreenRant, he confirmed that he won’t be back for Season 5.
Speaking to Screen Rant, Montgomery said, “I’m not in the last season, unfortunately,” when asked about a possible appearance.
He also went on to share his support for Sadie Sink, who plays Max, and said he was excited to see what the Duffer Brothers do next.
He added, “Max, I want to digress from your point into going towards Sadie as an actress. And I just think she’s such a talented actress that’s had some amazing opportunities over the last few years.”
He went on, “I really, more than anything, just want her to see her continue to do so many cool performances outside of Stranger Things, because I just think that she’s so talented, so professional, so driven–all those sorts of things.”
Billy was first introduced in season 2 as Max’s angry and abusive step-brother. By season 3, though, the character took a surprising turn.
After becoming possessed by the Mind Flayer, Billy eventually broke free and sacrificed himself to save Eleven and her friends.
His death was one of the show’s most powerful and emotional moments, and it marked a full-circle redemption arc.
Montgomery briefly returned in season 4, appearing in one of Max’s haunting visions.
The scene, set to Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill, became one of the most iconic moments of the series. It served as a reminder of how deeply Billy’s story had affected Max and the audience.
Despite fans hoping for one more appearance, it seems Billy’s story has officially ended.
And compared to other characters like Eddie Munson, who left behind unanswered questions, Billy’s arc had real closure. His death changed the course of the show and helped shape Max’s journey.
Netflix dropped a teaser trailer for Stranger Things season five last month.
The trailer was packed with special effects, big moments, and emotional shots of the main cast.
But despite the drama, the plot details are still mostly being kept under wraps.
