Harry Potter actor Jason Isaacs admits hit movies were ‘quite boring’ to make despite its popularity

"They were not that much fun..."

Jason Isaacs, best known for playing Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter series, recently opened up about his experience making the iconic films.

While fans see magic on screen, Isaacs admitted the behind-the-scenes process was far less thrilling.

Speaking on BBC’s The One Show, the British actor revealed that working on the blockbuster movies was often “quite boring.”

Isaacs said, “It’s a terrible confession to make. They weren’t that much fun to make. It’s quite boring, making big special effects films.”

However, he admitted the true joy of the franchise comes from filming.

He explained, “The pleasures all come afterwards.”

“I see and meet people for whom their lives were changed by it … still people reading it and sharing it with their children.”

“Some people say their lives were saved by it, and I believe it.”

Despite finding the filmmaking process dull at times, Isaacs shared that visiting the Harry Potter set with loved ones still brings him to tears.

He admitted, “Even though I was in the films, when I’ve taken godchildren or nephews and nieces to the tour … and suddenly you’re in the Great Hall, every time, I burst out in tears.”

“It’s incredibly moving and overwhelming.”

“There’s some magic that happened in those stories.”

Isaacs first took on the role of Lucius Malfoy in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002) and continued to portray Draco Malfoy’s father until Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 (2011).

The actor is currently starring as Timothy Ratliff in The White Lotus Season 3, which is currently streaming on HBO.
