The massively popular Hellboy movie starring Ron Perlman, a much-loved adaption of Mike Mignola’s original comic book series, has received an update on its never made third instalment.

Fans have expressed their hopes to have a third instalment made since the release of Perlman’s Hellboy 2, only to be given a disappointing remake starring Stranger Things star David Harbour.

The Harbour-led Hellboy reboot only went on to make around $55 million at the box office, against its $50 million budget, while only gathering a 17% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Fans of the original movie adaptation will be upset to know that, according to the comic book writer, a third movie starring Perlman and directed by Guillermo del Toro is unlikely going to happen.

During an interview with Screen Rant, Mignola suggested that Hellboy 3 is more than likely not going to happen because he and Del Toro, who directed the originals, “moved on in different directions.”

“Being able to look back now, I’m very happy about the time I spent with him,” he said.

“We had some adventures, and I just think we’ve both moved on in different directions.”

“When you work on movies, especially if you’re on the movie set, there’s so much intensity day in, day out with these people with the actors, with the director and then when it’s over, it’s just over,” he added.

Mignola spoke of his continued friendship with Del Toro over the years, despite not being as close as they once were.

“It’s a very strange feeling [where] you just go, ‘I thought we were friends for life, but I’ll never actually see you again,’ and, unfortunately, I think that’s kind of where del Toro and I are.”

“He’s just on another planet.”

“I’m very glad I got to know him and work with him back when working on a movie was five or six guys and not the career he has now.”

“But we still speak or email occasionally.”

Despite the recent news Ron Perlman fans are still holding out for Hellboy 3, and remain hopeful it will potentially happen in the near future.
