Natasha Lyonne admits she was ‘morally against’ starring in American Pie movies

"I was very confused."

The movie franchise “American Pie”, known for its raunchy, embarrassing, and comedic take on young adulthood, was the home of many great actors, such as Eugene Levy, Jason Biggs, Seann William Scott, and Jennifer Coolidge.

However, one actress in particular revealed why she originally didn’t want anything to do with the movies.

In her words, she was “morally against it.”

Natasha Lyonne played the curly-haired Jessica, known for her sarcastic tone, witty banter and blunt honesty providing a comedic tone throughout the movie.

While sitting down with Josh Horowitz for a live episode of his Happy, Sad, Confused podcast earlier this month, she added that she was very nearly not a part of the franchise at all.

The raspy New Yorker joked to the interviewer that would have much preferred to be in “The Lord of The Rings.”

“I turned down that movie like five times out of sheer confusion.”

“I was at Tisch by 15, so I had no tangible experience of going to like a white person high school and then doing dates for prom.”

“I had no idea what the movie was about. I think that is why I was sort of morally against it.”

Lyonne added the idea was just not very fun to her at first, revealing she didn’t like the idea of not fitting in.

“I never really enjoyed the idea of like you know… these are the hot chicks and you’re like the other,” she added.

“And I’m like that’s not that fun guys, and uh now you know, with 400 years between me and the film..”

“I can see that it’s very interesting that it touched a nerve for people and they felt seen.”

“I love Jason Biggs, I love Eddie Kaye Thomas very much.”

“But yeah, I was very confused by the film.”

After starring in the “American Pie” franchise, Lyonne went on to play several iconic roles, including the Netflix series Orange is the Black.

She also co-created, executive-produced, wrote, and starred in the dark comedy, Russian Doll.

She went on to receive a second Emmy Award nomination for her role in 2019.

Currently, there are no plans for a Season 3 of Russian Doll.

However, its two current seasons are available to watch on Netflix.
