Sharon Stone provides blunt response about new Basic Instinct reboot plans

Sharon Stone has spoken bluntly about the new Basic Instinct reboot.

Amazon MGM Studios announced last month that the 1992 thriller is being revived with original screenwriter Joe Eszterhas attached to pen the script.

But while fans speculated whether Stone might reprise her role as Catherine Tramell, the star has now made her feelings clear.

Speaking on Today, the Oscar nominee confirmed that she has no plans to revisit her famous role.

She said, “Good fu–ing luck.”

She compared the new project to her own experience returning for 2006’s Basic Instinct 2, which was widely panned and flopped at the box office.

“If it goes the way the one I was in went, then I would just say I do not know why you would do it,” she added.

When host Craig Melvin reacted to her honesty, Stone explained that she no longer worries about being candid.

She added, “I’m at that stage in my life where I already retired once. And I already died a couple of times. I’m like, ‘What are you going to do? Kill me again? Go ahead.’”

The original Basic Instinct, directed by Paul Verhoeven, paired Stone with Michael Douglas as a detective caught in a dangerous investigation.

The film became a global hit, earning $352.9 million and ranking as one of the year’s biggest releases.

Speaking to Business Insider earlier this summer, Stone recalled that Douglas originally refused to screen test with her after the pair clashed at Cannes.

She said, “Michael Douglas did not want to put his bare ass out on the screen with an unknown. He wouldn’t even test with me.”

“But that was also for a different reason; we had an argument prior to that.”

The exchange began when Douglas snapped at her during a conversation about mutual acquaintances.

She explained, “He screams this at me across a whole group of people. And I’m not the person who goes, ‘Oh, excuse me, superstar.’ I pushed back my chair and said to him, ‘Let’s step outside.’”

“That’s how we first met. I don’t think he wanted me to be his co-star.”

Despite the rocky introduction, Stone credited that tension with improving their on-screen chemistry.

“It worked great, because I was not rattled if he yelled at me. That was interesting for the character. Eventually, we became the greatest of friends, to this day.”

“I admire him tremendously.”
