Star Wars has officially introduced its first transgender Clone Trooper, known as Sister, marking a significant moment in the franchise’s push for inclusivity.
The character, first hinted at in the 2022 novel Queen’s Hope, now receives her first full visual portrayal in the recently released The Secrets of the Clone Troopers encyclopedia, where she dons armour inspired by the colours of the transgender pride flag—blue, pink, and white.
Named by her fellow clones in the 7th Sky Corps, her comrades gave her the name as a reminder that she was, and always would be, part of their family despite the challenges of expressing her identity in a traditionally uniform clone army.

In a reflection of her journey, Captain Rex, a prominent clone in Star Wars lore, narrates in the guidebook how Sister initially feared hiding her true self.
However, her brothers embraced her differences, offering her a sense of belonging in the ranks of soldiers who are otherwise identical.
Sister’s introduction has sparked conversations in the fan community, with supporters lauding the franchise for making bold strides towards inclusivity.
They appreciate how her armour visually symbolizes her journey, making her stand out in a traditionally homogeneous military.
However, as with any progressive move in a beloved franchise, there has also been some backlash.
Some fans feel that injecting modern social issues into Star Wars may divert from the epic space-fantasy storytelling that the series is known for, while others argue that such representation is essential for making Star Wars what it is in this age.
“I remember when Star Wars used to be about space wizards, epic adventures, and lightsaber combat [cry face emoji] – Now it’s… this,” one wrote in response to the reveal.
“This can’t be real. Gotta be a parody… there is no freaking way,” another wrote.
“She literally has the trans flag on her armour…” a third added.
“The transgender flag… this is supposed to be a galaxy far away, not down town California.”
“These people just love to kill escapism and fantasy.”

Although some weren’t as pleased with the reveal, there were also positive responses to the news.
“Star Wars fans need to learn to not be weirdos. This s***s awesome,” one wrote on X.
“Despite gender fluidity and sex changes being classic science fiction tropes, people will still find a way to bitch and moan about this,” another added.
